Daily Inspiration: Meet Frank Escalante

Today we’d like to introduce you to Frank Escalante

Frank, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started in 2017 in Costa Mesa, CA at now, non-existant bar called the “Anchor Bar”. It was a 2 story pizza shop that doubled as a weekly monday night comedy show on the first floor. Everybody got 3 minutes. Without knowing it, I got to see future Netflix Comedians perform there. I saw Tom Allen (Chad Goes Deep & Chad Kroeger) Brian Simpson (Netflix & JRE) and numerous other acts like Jason Cheny, Carmen Morales, and Steve Furey. This little dingy bar was bringing in LA’s best comedians to a 40-seat, low ceiling, $5 pizza establishment. This bar helped me establish my love for the craft really quickly which lead to me pursuing it full-time.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all. Its been the opposite. Its hard. Its the hardest f*****g thing in the world. To go into a room and get 30-100 people laughing is HARD. It takes years to get there and some comics don’t ever get that pleasure. I’ve had dudes wait outside a bar in Fountain Valley, CA to kick my ass because I made fun of them, I’ve had people call me slurs to my face in Wyoming, I’ve had people assault my fiance because they knew I was with her. Its a mad mad world but I wouldn’t want to do anything else.

I’ve performed in front of 600 people (so far) and I’ve performed in front of 1 person who’s second language was english.

I love it all.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I do stand up comedy. I specialize in making the people regret their decision to go out at night. Jk, I’m a jokester through and through.

I’m most proud of following through with comedy. Its really hard to stick with it. I’ve had alot of “life” happen to me in the past 3 years that would make anybody want to quit, but I can’t seem to just let it go. Its the one thing in my life that makes me feel useful.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Ohhh boy. Well, luckily for the reader. I don’t believe in luck. Whether its good or bad I don’t believe in it. I believe in being really damn good in your craft or hobby or whatever. People think the world works on luck, it actually works on consistency. When you’re consistent you get moments where it appears like luck to the world.
