Today we’d like to introduce you to Hans Enriquez
Hi Hans, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
The Story and Origin of Lazydaze
Lazydaze began as a vision rooted in culture, creativity, and community. Founded with a mission to provide a welcoming space where people could relax, connect, and explore cannabis culture responsibly, Lazydaze emerged at the intersection of lifestyle and advocacy.
Early Beginnings
The journey started in 2004 when founder Hans Enriquez, born in Los Angeles and transplanted to Texas, found inspiration. Growing up in a border town, Hans experienced a rich blend of cultures. After finishing school at Texas State University — initially an underachieving PRE-Med Biology major who was “having too much fun” — Hans ultimately graduated with a business degree.
While working at the mall, Hans came up with the idea of Lazydaze. The first store opened in Laredo, Texas, where Hans simultaneously played a key role in revitalizing the historic downtown Laredo district. He introduced the spirit of Austin’s 6th Street to Laredo, creating an entertainment district after violence in Mexico had diminished nightlife across the border. After two years in Laredo, Hans sold off the original Lazydaze store and his bars to his accountant, who continued to run the business under a licensing agreement for five years.
Growth and Expansion
Hans later launched new stores in San Antonio, eventually managing three locations before selling them and moving back to Austin. Interest in the brand grew, and as Hans learned more about the brand’s value, licensing and franchising became the next step — especially since cannabis-related businesses struggled to secure funding. Growth had to happen organically. Facing bank closures and terminated payment processors, Hans gained valuable experience in e-commerce and alternative payment technologies, which became part of the current business model.
Living in Austin, now happily married and starting a family, Hans faced new challenges. Licensed stores had started going rogue, creating a rough period for the brand. When COVID hit, Hans bought back the original Lazydaze store the week the world shut down. Forced to reinvent the brand once again, Lazydaze evolved from a counterculture store — offering smoke shop supplies, vapes, collectibles, tattoo parlors, glass-blowing studios, skate shops, and art supplies — into something new.
The Evolution into a Cannabis Coffeeshop
Knowing Lazydaze was always a representation of cannabis culture, Hans envisioned Lazydaze as a recognizable and safe space once legalization occurred. As CBD gained traction in Texas, customer conversations required more education. Hans and his team experimented with pre-infused K-cups for coffee, teas, and cocoas — but after breaking seven machines, they knew it was time to create a proper cannabis coffee shop.
Through trial, error, and constant refinement, Lazydaze improved its recipes, enhanced operations, and embraced the nuances of running a successful coffeehouse. By combining two worlds — coffee and cannabis — Lazydaze reintroduced itself to customers in the spirit of Amsterdam’s world-famous cannabis coffeeshops.
Today, Lazydaze has expanded its presence with multiple stores, including a standout location in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The brand is currently exploring new opportunities in Las Vegas and West Hollywood.
After 20 years of learning, growing, and adapting, the formula for success has been defined: Do three simple things really well — **Coffee, Cannabis, and Culture.**
Now we are publicly traded , our parent company Medx Holdings Ticker Symbol (MEDH). We have 3 distinct streams of revenue. Our corporate owned store (walk in and online sales) , the franchise and licensing of our brands and systems and digital payments / fintech. We are growing and have plans to be the most recognizable cannabis brand in America opening across the street from that other coffeeshop we all know so well!
Beyond Grateful!!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve made so many mistakes and things have gone so incredibly right and then so horribly wrong. Every single thing was a lesson though.. We won’t be doing that again!
Amazing highs, some lows. But that’s business, looking back it would be foolish and very naïve to think that owning or running any business would be easy. There is nothing else like it!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Deep down I am an ultra creative. A problem solver. An artist. Definitely a visionary per se.
I love the design aspect of everything. I love the building of ideas into tangible things. I love the creative process.
I believe , I excel in these areas. I have always been a musician and the lead vocalist and song writer. I think being on stage and performing in front of a crowd, has been a huge advantage when it come to public speaking, using and controlling the stage and audience.
I still love music and play guitar. Music and sound is a key element of the Lazydaze experience. .
What’s next?
As an entrepreneur, keep building.
As a CEO, build these revenue generators as big as possible and exit
As a father and husband, spend more time with the family. Get all that time back after investing so much into the company.
As for Lazydaze, expect us to be everywhere when cannabis is legalized.
Imagine that…. Coffee and a joint as a daily thing, available conveniently, in a safe well lit stay friendly enviorment. No need to purchase illegally any longer?
Personally get back into making music as soon as possible. might see me jam around south Austin soon
