Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacquelyn Prattipati
Hi Jacquelyn, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been interested in fashion since I was a young child. I have so many memories of spending hours shopping with my mom and grandma or my mom and sisters growing up. As I got older, I was often the go-to for my sisters and friends when they needed fashion advice or help choosing what to wear. But I never really thought about a career in fashion, much less starting my own business.
Instead, I focused on another passion of mine–creative writing–with the idea that it gave me flexibility in terms of career path. I graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a liberal arts degree focused on creative writing–a natural fit for a career in marketing. I spent 15 years working in digital marketing and e-commerce for well-known retail and travel brands before taking a few years off after my husband and I welcomed our daughter to our family.
While I was a stay-at-home mom, I took the first steps to turn my love of fashion into a career by working as a personal stylist for Stitch Fix. Shortly after joining the company, I moved into a styling leadership role where I coached and supported a team of stylists. In my seven years at Stitch Fix, I had the opportunity to style so many unique women and developed a passion for helping them feel amazing about themselves through their style. When I left the company, I knew I wanted to continue down a similar path and help women feel good about themselves.
I started JGP Styled Me to help women feel amazing about their personal style as they navigate midlife transitions. Midlife is a busy season for women, and with it comes a lot of changes–body, career, relationships, etc. Women often prioritize others before themselves until one day they wake up and don’t even feel like themselves anymore. While every other aspect of women’s lives can feel challenging in midlife, I work with them to ensure their wardrobe is anything but.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As with all small businesses, there is always so much to learn and do; it can feel overwhelming at times. When you’re doing something for the first time, the old adage, “You don’t know what you don’t know,” rings true. It can make the most seemingly basic tasks difficult!
I’m in a growth stage with my business. This requires a lot of patience and persistence and I’m learning to be a little bit more of both! The right client is ready and willing to invest in herself, but it can be challenging to find her. I continue experimenting with social media, in-person events, word-of-mouth and traditional marketing channels to create brand awareness and bring new clients on board.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m the founder of JGP Styled Me, a personal wardrobe styling business, and I work with clients virtually as well as in person in the greater Austin area. I help women feel amazing about their personal style as they move through midlife transitions. Midlife is a busy season and with it often comes a lot of transition. She might be starting a new job or going for a promotion. She might be retiring. She might be transitioning to an empty nest. She might be experiencing body changes with perimenopause/menopause. She might be going through a divorce. I’m passionate about supporting women in this stage of life because I’ve been through many of these changes myself, and I know firsthand what a difference it makes when you can feel good about how you show up in the world when navigating this stage.
I have three styling service packages available to new clients depending on their needs:
30 Days of Style is for the woman who has a closet full of clothes but nothing to wear, is bored with her wardrobe or needs help putting outfits together. This styling package is unique in that I work solely with clothing, shoes and accessories the client already owns and style them in new-to-her ways.
Seasonal Wardrobe Refresh is for the woman who no longer feels like herself in her clothes. Getting dressed is stressful because she has clothes that have been in her closet for years but they don’t meet the needs of her life today. She’s ready to transform her style so that it matches the life she lives. This is my most comprehensive styling package which includes a little bit of everything–a closet edit, personal shopping, curated outfits and 30 days of style support.
Travel Styling is for the woman who stress-shops before going on vacation. She always overpacks but only wears half of what’s in her luggage. Preparing for a trip is overwhelming to her. With this service, I work with what the client already has in her closet and do some supplemental shopping to add a few new vacation-ready pieces to the mix. I mix and match her old and new to create curated outfits for her trip.
In addition to these services, I offer a la carte VIP styling services for my established clients.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I anticipate even more growth in the personal styling industry in the near-term as individual personal stylists are becoming more commonplace. I belong to a number of communities specifically for stylists and I see these organizations expanding to serve the demand. Similarly, I’m seeing more innovative apps and tools catered specifically to stylists–client management tools, virtual wardrobes and lookbooks, etc.
