Today we’d like to introduce you to Jami Sanchez.
Hi Jami, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started CNA classes in 2001 with the hopes of going to nursing school. In 2002 I decided to go on to Medication Aide school. After graduating with my CMA I got a job working as a medication aide in Georgetown @ an Assisted Living. After I worked there for sometime I was hired as activity director/medication aide at a local nursing home in Lampasas. During my time as an activity director I met two local women who had decided to convert one of Lampasas’ old motels into an assisted living. This would be the first assisted living in Lampasas. I started with them shortly after they opened their doors in January 2006. At this time we only had 1 resident. I worked with them for the next 8 years. During the 8 years I wore many different hats, eventually becoming their assistant and managing the day to day operations of the ALF. IN 2013 the ALF was sold and we went through a change of ownership I was then promoted to Executive Director. In 2018 the company decided another, larger assisted living would benefit Lampasas greatly and we broke ground on a large type B assisted living. We opened our doors in July of 2020 and within the first year we made it to 100% capacity. I continue to work as Executive Director and have been blessed to be a part of every milestone.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No it has not always been smooth. Covid was the #1 struggle I think most of us have faced. We opened our doors on the new faciity in the middle of the pandemic and had to fill the rooms while trying to adhere to the constantly changing covid guidelines.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As the Executive Director I am responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of the facility. I am also the sole marketing director for both Lampasas communities. This role really gets me in front of the community and allows me to be the face of both facilities. I would say that I am most kown for my caring and outgoing personality. I look at each resident and situtaion differently. In this business it is never a one size fits all. Each resident and family situation is different and requires different support. I am most proud of the strong team I have built. We have longevity in our employees and residents. Each resident and staff member is treated like family. Our amazing teams and the outstanding care we provide to our residents and the constant communication and support we offer our families sets us apart from others.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
In the early years Laura James and Andrea Williams (the first owners) allowed me to step into a leadership, management role and really allowed me the opportunity to make their business my own. I helped them fill the facility to 100% capacity and from there I was able to apart of building and opening an ALF from the ground up.
