Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Krohn.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
In 2010 I bought my 1st 40ft yacht as my personal boat. After a year of ownership, maintenance, and fuel expenses, I was contemplating getting rid of the boat. Back then, the only rentals on the water were houseboats and pontoons. The captained pontoons were nice, but there really wasn’t any options on Lake Travis for a well equipped yacht. So thus Lake Travis Yacht Rentals was born. For roughly 6-7 years I ran my business while working full time in corporate in the tech sector. I handled all phone calls, website development, bookings, boat repairs, and was captain on this very same yacht.
In 2017 I decided to expand the business and buy a second yacht, hiring an additional captain. For the next year I ran side by side the captain I hired. Then I added a third, then a 4th yacht while still working corporate – I hired on two more captains… it was a juggle to say the least. I had to wear all hats of the business and play mechanic many late nights after my corporate job to keep things running smoothly.
Then came COVID. With public parks shutting down, we had to find another location to pick up our customers where I had to work a deal with a homeowner that had unrestricted land and plenty of parking. It was tough, but we made it through. I then found a marina that would allow us operate charters from in mid 2019. The marina manager at the time was understaffed, so I stepped in to help move the marina as water levels fluctuated, do marina repairs, etc. The marina manager was so thankful at the time he told me to expand as much as I wanted. A few months later, due to COVID, I was facing a layoff in my corporate career. It was time to either find a new job, or make a major shift in what I was doing. I knew staying in corporate was never going to get done what I wanted to achieve income wise, or retirement wise – so I walked from corporate and took a gamble on myself. In early 2020 I bought another 8 boats with cash I had saved up. In 6 months I had trippled the revenue of the business, and had replaced what I was loosing in income from my corporate job. In 2021, I scaled our operations to what they are today with 18 boats in our fleet(The ACTUAL largest fleet of captained yachts and pontoons on Lake Travis that are fully owned and operated by Lake Travis Yacht Rentals).
As of today, we have serviced well over 180,000 customers – and that is just what has been recorded (for the 1st few years we didn’t have software to collect the number of customers).
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

What sets me apart from most individuals is my drive. I’m relentless in my pursuit to go after what I want to achieve.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I currently do not have a mentor. I lean on online content for direction from such people as Dan Martell, Codie Sanchez, Alex Hormozi and a few others, and the school of hard knocks.
My best suggestion to anyone starting a business, or already own a business is to surround yourself with people you aspire to be like. Also, use social media and other platforms to engulf yourself in content that will push you and inspire you to reach for bigger goals. I use the “garbage in, garbage out” analogy when it comes to your mindset…. feed your mind trash TV, trash social media, etc – it will only bring you down and not help you move forward. Feed your mind and fill your time with people and content who push you to do better, you will do better – it’s pretty simple.
