Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaymee & Saima Islam.
Hi Jaymee & Saima, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
We are both Esthetics graduates of the Aveda Institute of Austin (Jaymee class of 2012 and Saima class of 2015). With experience in laser spas, hotel spas, and the lash world, we soon realized that lash extensions were an art and expression that not only empowered us but the women that we served. I (Jaymee) started Luna Lash in November of 2018 and set out to create an experience for women through the celebration of sisterhood, the deliberate decision to reconnect with ourselves, and the act of claiming our place in the world – all through a seemingly simple, yet powerful, lash appointment.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Before Saima joined the business a year after being founded, the biggest struggle with Luna Lash was that it lacked the real-life version of one of our core values – sisterhood. Although I founded Luna Lash alone, the idea of Luna Lash was to help women connect with their most authentic self by the empowerment of a poised and encouraging gang of gals – your sisters! By the time Saima joined me, the spread of covid-19 pushed the city into lockdown and we closed the salon from mid-March to June. Once opened, we had lost almost half of our business. Keeping a luxury beauty business running during a time of social distancing and unemployment was difficult, but it gave us the chance to take a good look at what the business needed in order to survive anything! We started with refining our brand strategy, which we quickly realized was going to be the foundation to the success and longevity of Luna Lash.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We specialize in lash extensions, which we believe to be a major enhancement to any woman’s lifestyle. A skillfully applied set of lashes can harmonize the face and eyes while saving busy women time getting ready, and maybe most importantly, saving them the mental energy of not feeling hot. What sets us apart from other lash studios in Austin is our empowering and individualistic approach to lashes. We are passionate about enhancing a woman’s natural beauty by specifically crafting a lash look that is unique to her face and personality. We aren’t biased to towards any certain lash style because every woman is different and her features and lifestyle will dictate the end result. That being said, we are well versed in application techniques ranging from hyper-natural looks to ultimate drama!
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Living in a woman’s world! Working with women from various walks of life grounds us and motivates us in so many ways. We learn new ways of thinking and are met with different perspectives on world outlooks. Merging beauty and creativity to serve women in a way that’s empowering inspires us daily and satisfies our souls. The most fulfilling feeling is seeing a woman brim with confidence after seeing herself with beautiful lashes that complement her features!
