Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeanette Reyes
Hi Jeanette, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
To 13 year old me, there was no better way to spend a weekend than locked away in my bedroom reading the latest CosmoGirl magazine I got in the mail. I poured over every beauty pick, every ad and every article from cover to cover. Then came the fun part- tearing that magazine up and pasting a collage all over my walls. I wanted fashion to surround me at all times and it came as no surprise when I got my first job at the mall a few years later.
Of course I knew fashion had to be more of a hobby than an actual job because in my family, good grades and a college education were expected. As high school graduates themselves, my parents wanted more for my siblings and me, so they always encouraged us to study. I moved out at 18 to attend UT Austin and have been proud to call Austin home since.
After graduating, I worked in various industries like insurance, audio/video and eventually landed in tech, but all the while I couldn’t shake this itch to create for myself. I started a Youtube channel in 2016 where I focused on beauty tutorials and lifestyle tips, but I always treated it simply as a hobby, my creative outlet.
Life came at me fast when I got married and pregnant, welcoming my son in 2020. Then again when my daughter was born in 2022. Suddenly I felt complete, my beautiful family here and ready to take on the world with me. But I will admit that I expected motherhood to be a lot easier. I thought my life could continue as it was and that I’d be a career woman first and a mom on the side.
Motherhood has a magical way of changing how you view yourself, the world, and the women that make it go round. I began to understand how important this calling was and how my impact would be greater as a mother than any career title. I also learned how easy it is for us moms to put ourselves on the back burner. I think any good mom tries to give her best to her kids and family, but it’s still important to take care of ourselves and keep our own hobbies and interests alive.
After this is when I decided to pour back into myself, one day at a time. I started working out again, practicing my makeup for fun, and curating my new wardrobe. I suddenly felt so much energy and excitement to create content again. What started as motherhood musings and fitness journey updates has now turned into fashion and beauty videos, and recently my first collaboration with JustFab shoes!
In the last year I’ve been able to connect with so many amazing moms and women and they’ve inspired me to continue sharing the small things that make a huge difference in our daily lives. I believe in the power of a great outfit. When we look good, we feel good and show up for our loved ones in a new light. But more than that, I believe we all have a gift worth sharing. A gift that comes so naturally to us that we sometimes don’t even recognize how special it is. I want to continue reminding women to own their power, their gifts, talents and charm. We were made for this.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think the biggest struggle has been accepting my passions while creating fashion and beauty videos, which are so different compared to the industries I worked in. I was afraid of what my peers would think and if I would still be taken seriously. Aside from changing trends and algorithms, I think getting out of my own head has been the biggest hurdle to overcome in my creator journey.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I wear my heart on my sleeve and my long time friends know this about me. I always want my art to be a reflection of the lessons learned along the way and to inspire others to transmute their pain and frustrations into something positive. While we can’t control everything, we do have the power to remain optimistic and kind.
I’m mostly a quiet girl, always observing and that’s why I love to express myself through my wardrobe. It’s the thing that most people ask me for advice on, what shoes go with this, how should I cut my hair, so I’m leaning into this gift and using it as a way to connect with women looking to elevate their wardrobe.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
