Daily Inspiration: Meet Jennifer Dodd

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Dodd.

Hi Jennifer, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
This ‘community uplifting’ part of my story started when I moved to Houston, Texas, from south Florida.

I had this feeling- and I know I’m not alone in this- that there is something greater out there for all of us; all we have to do is find it. Some may call this destiny.

All we have to do is find it… Ha! That seems like the most challenging part.

But one day, I did find it. And once I found it, the rest felt effortless. I FINALLY felt like I was living inflow.

I didn’t know what I was searching for at the time, but I knew it had to do with the internet. I was working in digital marketing and saw the unlimited potential online communities offered.

When I moved to Houston, I reignited a friendship with a past college acquaintance named Sylvia. Sylvia had this infectious passion for supporting small local businesses because she had been doing this for years as a community events coordinator.

She introduced me to this creative, compassionate, and lively community of builders that I had no idea existed.

One night as I was sitting in bed, the idea hit me like a dog flying into a closed sliding glass door.

Sylvia and I could collaborate to “shine a digital spotlight” on the farmers, creators, and businesses that didn’t know how to use internet marketing.

That very moment I reached out to Sylvia, and she was immediately on board.

Since that day, I have moved to Austin, and we have dedicated our time to building a supportive online community in both cities.

We are constantly brainstorming new ways to make our spotlight brighter and get these creators the recognition they deserve.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Life naturally ebbs and flows in waves, and I am learning to be more comfortable with that.

We have had our struggles on how to get started. We have questioned where to place our focus. And we have both fought with prioritization since we both have full-time jobs.

Thankfully we have not let those struggles cause us to give up.

We now both work at SERP Co, a digital marketing startup that recognizes our creative pursuits.

The company’s founder is one of the most passionate and driven individuals I have ever met, and he has been more than generous in offering us his digital marketing knowledge.

With this team’s tremendous energy, expertise, and camaraderie, I know we can achieve our Localite vision: To create a ‘Systemic Local Support Culture.’

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
All of my downtime has been committed to building LocaliteTX.co

I founded Localite intending to shine a spotlight on the creators in our community to build a ‘systemic local support culture.’ Sylvia and I coined that term to mean the natural process of businesses utilizing other businesses within their community for the goods and services they need.

This term in no way implies that you can’t shop at ‘big’ companies. Instead, we wish to encourage these “big” businesses to support the local communities they reside in.

Localite actively showcases the people you typically won’t find in a google search. They are the businesses you may find at your local farmer’s market or through word of mouth.

We do this because, more often than not, these business owners want to do what they do best and not spend all their time learning digital marketing and attracting new customers.

Sylvia and I are only in the first few years of growing Localite and are already feeling the positive impacts of our work. We are so excited to see what the future holds for this community-driven project!

Who else deserves credit in your story?
I know Localite would not have made it this far without Sylvia and SERP co.

Sylvia’s undeniable excitement and commitment to supporting local was the ultimate foundation to the Localite mission. Without her “support local” enthusiasm, I never would have been inspired enough to ask for the collaboration.

And having this strong belief and vision is what keeps us going.

SERP.co has become equally as valuable to me.

Devin Schumacher, the SERP co-founder, is one of the best SEO experts globally, and I get to work with him every day.

SEO stands for search engine optimization and is the system used to rank page 1 on google.

With his guidance, we have been able to help so many small businesses grow exponentially, and he is teaching others how to do it on their own.

I’m so proud to work for a company with a true abundance mindset and commitment to helping others reach their visions as well.

It is a blessing to have the opportunity to use the knowledge gained from SERP co to benefit my community through Localite.
