Today we’d like to introduce you to Jess Steidler
Hi Jess, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was always drawing when I had free time growing up and I always dreamed of being a tattoo artist, but was too scared to commit. My journey really began in California. I started making hand painted jackets and sold them at music festivals. It really clicked for me that I could turn these designs into beautiful tattoos. So in 2020 I decided to make a portfolio of designs I thought would be great tattoos. I went to different artists to get tattooed and talked to them about an apprenticeship. Then one day I met Dillon Forte and he took me in as his apprentice! I worked with him for a little over a year in California. Then we moved to Austin and I worked with him for another 3 years out in Wimberley. Now I work at a studio in Austin called Burning Hand. It has all been such a dream come true.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It was challenging to get an apprenticeship with a tattoo artist. But I stuck with it and it turned out better than I could have ever imagined! I have learned so much and am still learning everyday. There are always challenges that come with tattooing but I love it.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a full time tattoo artist. My style is a combination of geometric, art deco, art nouveau, and some organic floral elements. I alway ask my clients if they have any intentions for the tattoo and that helps guide me in my drawing process. I am so proud of how far I have come and I am excited to see how I grow and evolve as time goes on.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I really believe that being very present and happy has been most important to my success. I love everything I tattoo! Most of the tattoos I create hold so much meaning for my clients and being able to create something so meaningful is very fulfilling to me.
