Daily Inspiration: Meet JOE Emery

Today we’d like to introduce you to JOE Emery.

Hi JOE, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
We are an Austin garage, punk, and powerpop rock ‘n’ roll band that has somehow been playing together for 25 years.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
How is it that the same amplifiers we have been playing all this time weigh more now than they did 20 years ago! Any long-term group creative endeavor has its challenges and ups and downs, but really we’ve been very lucky. We have a great community of friends and fans here in Texas and beyond, we’ve been fortunate to get to play shows throughout North America and Europe. We’re very grateful to still be out there playing and getting great reception after all these years.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We’ve put out five records on the terrific label Get Hip Recordings and are known for raucous, high-energy live shows. Our sound has an edge and the shows can get a little nuts but there’s still enough melody to appeal to everyone from kids to teens to parents to grandparents. We’re all pretty much family at this point, and we love what we do. That chemistry definitely comes across when we play live.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
We love writing songs and making records but there’s no substitute for the energy you get playing to a live audience. We’re grateful Covid seems to be mostly behind us and we don’t take anything for granted.
