Daily Inspiration: Meet Jordan Brunes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Brunes.

Hi Jordan , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always been a maker, a creator in some way or another for as long has I can remember. It wasn’t until I was a single mother in my early 20’s that I found embroidery. It was a fun and challenging medium that I could pick up and put down as life allowed. I quickly became addicted to it, wanting to learn new stitched and techniques. Over the years of stitching, family and friends stated to ask for custom orders and started to spread the word of how unique and not typical embroidery can be.
I started to my business in 2017 with a very small Etsy shop and local pop ups/markets. From there I started to teach in person workshops, and that really brings me joy. Seeing the spark of joy in others with a craft that I love so much.
I now vend at markets all over central Texas as well as selling at other retail locations.
Bringing together snarky, fun vibes with a sprinkle of macabre, i create finished hand embroidery art that is as unique as. Your sense of humor. As well as DIY stitch kits to help inspire others to try.
I get so much joy creating this art and sharing with others.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. I still work a “day job” and being a mother has its own challenges let alone running a small business. It’s late nights and early early mornings, juggling a crazy schedule and trying to find a balance. ( There never is a balance). I am my own worst critic as to my art, and if i could have done more. But in the end of each workshop and event I work at it always works out, and always is a good time.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I love bringing together snarky and fun vibes with a sprinkle of macabre into the embroidery world. Making art that stands out of the normal day to day decor that you would find.
I feel I specialize in teaching in a down to earth way, making the craft not so intimidating to beginners. It’s art, we can play and have fun with this, no need to over complicate it. Whether it’s in person or with the DIY kits I try to keep it fun and light hearted. I love to see peoples faces once they see how much joy embroidery can be.
I am most proud when people recognize my work, and are existed to see more it.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I grew up in the mountains of Montana, and summers filled with lakes, hiking, and camping will always be something that brings me joy.
