Daily Inspiration: Meet Joseph Kelly

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Kelly.

Hi Joseph, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My photography story begins back in Wisconsin with film cameras and a simple desire to capture nature at its best. There was no internet, so I would simply save the images and share them with my friends. I eventually joined the school newspaper in college for a very short period of time but found it to lack a certain creativity that I seemed to crave. After moving to central Texas some thirty years ago, I once again wanted to share the natural beauty of the Hill Country with my friends and family back home. Technology had progressed with the advent of Facebook and digital cameras. I purchased a Sony package online for a winning bid of two hundred dollars. In addition to the actual camera, I received an 80 to 200mm, a 35mm and a wide-angle lens in that price. Thrilled beyond words I began exploring the areas around Lago Vista, Cedar Park, Spicewood and Point Venture. I have a website with most of my work https://fineartamerica.com/profiles/7-joseph-kelly, or @txhealer on Instagram. It is my hope that you are moved, at a soul level. and connect to my work, or the energy contained within each image.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The struggle was converting views on my web site into actual sales; I have had nearly forty thousand views of my work online. Yet the conversion rate of views to purchases was less than stellar and could not understand why.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have had a very long career in retail management; from store management to vice president of my own company. I spent ten years in pet supply, ten in footwear and another five in office supplies. Even though this is hard to put out there, I have for the past thirty years been affected by the same speech disability as Robert Kennedy, Jr. Being in a forward-facing role has never been particularly easy, but by the say token if someone had a problem with my quality of speech, I figured it was a reflection of his/ her own insecurities.

How do you think about happiness?
Being out in nature, discovering new paths. exploring with my camera at my side. There is so much beauty in the world, all you need do is open your eyes and heart. Over the years I have had many dogs, each unique; a personality unlike any other. The sheer joy that they each brought into our lives was immeasurable.
