Today we’d like to introduce you to Jude Laird.
Hi Jude, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Il do this quickly. I came from a a family of addiction. I moved to Hawaii in 2nd grade and lived there for about 8 months with my mom that was trying to get sober. I eventually, due to some unforeseen circumstances, was sent on a plane back to Sugar Land, Texas where, after a very uncomfortable custody battle, I lived with my grandma for about 4-5 years. I went to Fort Bend Christian Academy for middle school and most of high school. I didnt graduate from Fort Bend Christian because, during the last 3 weeks of classes, I was expelled for drug paraphernalia that I didn’t even have on campus. I had no previous record with the school, no previous suspensions or anything. I dont think I would be expelled under a different principle, but this particular principle was new to the school and I think was trying to make an example out of me in some way. There was a kid previously that had only been suspended after he sent sexual images of himself to a minor. There were very few people besides the principle and head of school of thought it was ok to expel me. Teachers, parents, and students all voiced the frustrations and I really became kind of a big deal in the school, especially since I was the lead guitar/band leader of the praise band for 2 years. After this I luckly graduated from Austin Highschool nearby and went onto college just as I had planned. I went to UNT for one year, attained a 4.0 gpa, and then transferred to my dream school UT where I currently reside. I now am spending most of my time writing music and trying to build towards my goals of being a songwriter, producer, and artist.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I primarily like to write songs and produce. I try to make the realist music I can. Its a great strain on my emotional well being but I feel like I cant not do it. Currently I am known as a local producer and songwriter among some select groups at UT, but I haven’t quite had enough time to really make a name for myself. I am most proud of my ability to learn and to grow as an artist so quickly. I started producing about 2 years ago and writing lyrics a few months ago and I truly think that might skill level has improved dramatically since then. I think I worked very hard at it and I am putting all my chips down on this. I think my love of my psychology, my ability to play multiple instruments, my obsession with creativity, my live experience, and dedication set me apart. I think I do a good job at making a good, safe, fun studio environment where people feel comfortable being themselves.
