Daily Inspiration: Meet Justice Cammack

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justice Cammack.

Justice Cammack

Hi Justice, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was influenced by all kinds of music as a child. My father was my influence when it came to artists like Santana, Earth, Wind & Fire, Miles Davis and Earl Klugh. My brother was my influence in discovering artists like Toto, Van Halen, Queen, Supertramp, and Doobie Brothers. My mother was on the soul, r&b and classical side. Her influence on me were artists like Smokey Robinson, Johnny Mathis, Barry Manilow and Sammy Davis, Jr. My friends turned me on to Journey, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Rush, Black Sabbath and so on.

I received my first guitar at 6 years old and my second in sixth grade. I was in love with music from the start.

I started writing songs at around 12 years old. As a shy child, writing songs was my way of expressing myself.

Mostly self-taught on guitar, I also took on drums, bass, and keyboards,

I started performing in bands in junior high school and high school. I enjoyed vocal choir during high school and took it further with voice in college.

My first taste of the road came in my senior year when I embarked on a tour of Mexico with my band, laying the foundation for a lifelong love of live performance.

Including performances with various bands and solo performances, I have over 3,000 stage performances to my name. I’ve pretty much lost count at this point. I have had the incredible experiences of opening for legendary acts like The Temptations, Joan Jett, and Mint Condition.

Since relocating to the eclectic music scene of Austin, in 2011, I have continued to evolve my sound,

Since going solo, I have released three CDs. *Last Goodbyes* and *Stargazer Chronicles: Book I* under my name and most recently *Waves Of Peace*, under the moniker “CammacK.” I am currently remixing and mastering Stargazer.

Now, with the new CD, I am looking to get back out there and performing the new material!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The music industry has never been a smooth road. There are always ups and downs. I’ve had some awesome experiences and some very depressing times. But I don’t know anyone in this business who has not had the same experience.

One of the biggest issues I’ve had in my career was when you’re in a band, there are a lot of cooks in the kitchen. Unfortunately, there usually turned out to be some sort of conflict happening that would derail forward momentum. Hence going solo.

These days its about just having fun with the love of creation and performance.

I’ve been off the road for a while now. But I’m looking to share the latest releases with a new crowd.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a singer, songwriter and performer. I write my own lyrics and music and record all of the parts myself. I am a guitarist, bassist, drummer and keyboardist. I have performed with many bands in my career, but I have written and recorded three solo albums and 3 albums that I never profesionally released. I have probably written around 500 songs in my lifetime.

I am considering going back, redoing those albums and releasing them at some point.

I am known for writing songs that tell a story or deliver a message. I write mostly about my life experiences and sometimes from imagination. Sometimes at first glance some of my lyrics can seem depressing. But if you look deeper, you’ll see they are actually songs of hope, encouragement and perseverance.

Last Goodbyes is a body of music that loosely follows a book I wrote in 2006 regarding a relationship that derailed my life for a while. The book and the album were cathartic and helped me get past it. The book was published in 2007, but I pulled it from the stores a couple of years later because it just felt too personal.

Stargazer Chronicles: Book I is a work of real life and fiction about the obstacles of life, love and destiny.

Waves Of Peace is a work of songs diving into the pop rock side that I hadn’t been in touch with for a while. Waves of Peace is my latest work.

I have been performing for a long time in the private party, club, and arena industries of music.

I am most proud of having the experiences of opening for some major acts. Those are times I will never forget.

To tell the truth, I’m not sure what sets me apart from others. I have been told that my music reminds people of other groups out there, but is not like other groups out there.
I have been told my music is unique.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happy is music with feeling and emotion, which is probably why I mostly listen to music from the 70s. Music that provides an experience. Music that makes me smile or want to cry. I am a sentimental person and I enjoy nostalgia. Music is my sanity and helps me through life. I can pretty much name a song that relates to just about any time in my life.

It makes me happy when someone gets those feelings from my music.

Other than music, my happiness comes from time with friends and loved ones, riding my motorcycle and a great glass of wine.
