Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Mayfield.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
For me, construction started as a child. I had to tear everything apart and put it all back together to know how/why it works. I started working on computers at the age of 11. Then at 16, I started in Commercial Construction as a laborer. I was fortunate to have multiple great mentors that were willing to put in the effort to teach me the ways of the industry and I quickly moved up. Within 1-1/2 years, I became a carpenter. When I turned 19, I had the opportunity to go on the road as a traveling Superintendent in the Commercial Retail space. I traveled the country building all your big box stores like Best Buy, Office Depot, Tractor Supply, Pet Supplies Plus, etc. It was an incredible experience but eventually I knew I wanted to settle down and move to Austin. Once I got to Austin, I worked as a full Combination Building Inspector for the City of Austin. After 4 years of doing residential inspections for the City Of Austin, I decided I wanted to build correctly instead of trying to teach others to build correctly. This is where Crux Construction was formed in October of 2023!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have been very blessed to have a smooth road. I had made many connections along the way with many people that believed in my morals, work ethic, and knowledge in the industry to support this company through the beginning stages.

Crux Construction offers consultation services, 3rd Party Inspections, and General Contracting services. With over 17 years of construction experience and 4 years of being a Building Inspector, we know how construction should be done. We take pride in building quality and safe structures. Our goal is to build homes and light commercial projects that will last!
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I am always looking to help others out either through building for clients or helping other builders with inspections or consultations. I believe the best form of marketing for Crux Construction is simply word of mouth from those that I have helped and worked with.
