Today we’d like to introduce you to Kate Angel
Hi Kate, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always believed that music is a way to speak the truth, and that’s exactly what I’ve been doing with my journey in rock music. I’m Kate Angel, a Texas-based Woman in Rock Music who’s had the privilege of opening for incredible national acts like Icon For Hire, Orianthi, Lacey Sturm from Flyleaf, and Liliac. My journey has been a wild ride, and I’m just getting started.
Right now, I’m gearing up for the release of my new single, “Prove It,” which will be leading into the release of my upcoming EP. Before I dive into that, let me share a little bit about how I got here.
Before I found my passion for rock music, my musical journey actually began with piano. I started classical training starting at age 7, but I’ve always had a strong desire to explore different aspects of music. My foundation in piano helped me develop my vocal skills, as it provided a solid understanding of music theory and technique that I could apply to singing.
However, it wasn’t until I encountered the music of iconic female rock singers like Amy Lee (Evanescence) and Hayley Williams (Paramore) that I truly found my voice. Their music resonated with me on a deep level—raw, powerful, and unapologetic—and it became clear to me that this was the kind of music I wanted to create. Their artistry inspired me to embrace my own sound and field my passion for rock music.
As I began writing my own songs, I started performing at venues, drawing inspiration from artists like Lzzy Hale of Halestorm. Her commanding stage presence, coupled with powerful guitar playing and singing, truly captivated me. I also found inspiration in Yungblud, whose vulnerability and openness in expressing his emotions through music pushed me to embrace my own feelings in my songs. This combination of influences and experiences laid the foundation for my musical journey, and from there, everything just fell into place.
Opening for artists who have influenced me has been such an incredible honor, especially someone like Lacey Sturm from Flyleaf, who I’ve admired for years. Every performance was a learning experience, whether it was about stage presence, connecting with the crowd, or witnessing how deeply she poured her heart into her performances. It taught me the true value of giving 100% on stage, no matter the size of the venue or the audience. These moments reinforced the importance of authenticity and energy in every show I do.
There’s something truly special about being the headliner and having the crowd there to see you. It’s a whole different energy when I’m head leading the show. My Texas Halo Tour 2024 was such a high for me. It gave me the chance to connect with my fanbase, known as “Halos”, in person, hear their stories, and perform for people who genuinely resonate with my music. That experience was uplifting and reaffirmed my passion for what I do. It’s moments like these that fuel my excitement for what’s coming next.
My Radio Edit version of “Prove It” will be released in May, 2025. “Prove It” is a song about strength, defiance, and proving your worth to the world, especially when others try to bring you down or doubt you. We all face moments in life where we have to stand up for ourselves, and this song is my anthem for that. Musically, it has this gritty, in-your-face energy that matches the message. It’s about owning who you are and not letting anyone tell you you’re not enough. I’m really proud of how it turned out, and I can’t wait for people to hear it.
My first EP “VENOM” was such an important part of my journey. It was my first EP recording project, co-producing with Matt Novesky, bass player of Blue October and Kelsey Flanagan at Orb Recording Studios, and it was an incredible learning experience. The sound was raw, intense, and emotional, which is exactly where I was in my life at the time. It was a great introduction to my music, and the response from fans has been so humbling. I feel like I’ve evolved a lot since then. “Prove It” and the new EP are a reflection of where I’m at in my life now, feeling and expressing more attitude, more spunk, and even more determination to stay true to myself.
My upcoming EP is a continuation of my journey, and it will be released this Fall 2025. The music is going to be energetic and even more anthemic. I’ve learned a lot about myself as an artist, and I’m incorporating more of that into my new songs. “Prove It” is just the beginning, and I can’t wait to share the full project with everyone. It’s definitely going to hit hard.
I want my music to empower people. Whether it’s through the message of a song like “Prove It” or the energy of a live performance, I want my “HALOS” to walk away feeling like they can take on the world. I want them to know that no matter what life throws their way, they have the strength to keep going. On a personal level, I also hope my journey inspires others to be unapologetically themselves, because that’s truly what I aim to do with my music – share the power of authenticity and self-expression.
Along with the new EP and “Prove It,” I’m planning another tour and more shows for the New Generation of Rock. There’s also more music coming, so keep an eye out, Halos! As I always say “Live As Angel, Rock Like a Halo.” “Much Love and New Generation Rock.”
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being a woman in rock music can sometimes feel like a constant balancing act. I often find myself navigating a space that has been traditionally dominated by men, and there are moments when I question if I’m being taken seriously. It’s not always easy to be seen as equal, and there’s a sense that I have to work twice as hard to prove my worth, whether it’s as a musician or an artist. I’ve encountered times when my ideas or contributions have been overlooked, and it can be disheartening. There’s also the pressure to fit into certain expectations of what a female artist should look like or sound like, which can make it difficult to fully embrace my authentic self. But despite these challenges, I’m driven by a deep passion for my craft. I choose to focus on the power of music to connect and inspire, knowing that by continuing to create and perform, I’m contributing to a shift in the industry—one that can make it easier for future women in rock to find their voice.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My incredible fanbase, the Halos, have been my most loyal supporters from the very beginning. Their unwavering encouragement and belief in my band and me have been a constant source of motivation, especially during the toughest moments. They inspire me to create music that speaks to them, and every song I write reflects both my personal journey and the love and energy they consistently share with me. The Halos are much more than just fans—they’ve become a family, and their support drives me to continually push myself and share my journey through music.
I am also deeply grateful for the women in rock music who have paved the way for artists like me. Their strength, talent, and resilience have been instrumental in my own growth, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without their inspiration and camaraderie.
KLBJ Radio, particularly through Armadillo Nation, has been great for my music and my. band. I am proud to feel seen as a woman in the rock scene, and I truly appreciate Johnny Rude and the entire Armadillo Nation team for their dedication to showcasing local and regional artists. Their platform has allowed me to connect with a broader audience, and I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of that.
