Daily Inspiration: Meet Keller Davis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keller Davis

Hi Keller, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Createscape Coworking started in 2014 as a passion project between myself and my friends-turned-business partners. At the time, two of us were running a video production business from home and coffee shops, but we started exploring coworking spaces as a way to elevate our business professionally and share resources like office space. Commercial real estate in Austin was already expensive for startups, and we struggled to find a coworking space that truly fit our needs. Being entrepreneurial and design-minded, we decided to take the leap and create our own space—one that fostered creativity, flexibility, and community.

We launched Createscape in a small, 1,000-square-foot room in East Austin, carefully designing it with open and dedicated desk seating. The execution was simple, but the demand for a space like ours was evident. When we had to relocate, we found a larger space at 701 Tillery Street, a former 1950s-era bread factory that had been converted into offices and artist studios. Moving there in 2015 was a major step forward. We expanded our offerings with a loft for dedicated desks, a private conference room, and more amenities tailored to our growing community.

Over the years, as new spaces became available, we continued to expand—one suite at a time—through renovations and strategic growth. Today, Createscape has evolved into an 8,000-square-foot coworking hub featuring four unique work rooms, two meeting rooms, a media space, a kitchen/event area, seven call rooms, an outdoor patio, four private offices, and nine “office pods.”

But beyond the physical space, what truly defines Createscape is the community. For over a decade, we’ve had the privilege of supporting thousands of members—freelancers, entrepreneurs, and creatives—who have built friendships, collaborated on projects, and grown their businesses within our walls. Through events, newsletters, blog features, and our podcast Curious Blend, we’ve shared the stories of our members and celebrated their successes. It’s been incredible to witness how many meaningful connections have formed here, and I’m proud to have played a role in fostering an environment where creativity and collaboration thrive.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road to building and growing Createscape hasn’t always been smooth, but challenges have been a catalyst for our evolution. In the early days, we were learning as we went. The coworking industry was larger and more complex than our initial business plan had accounted for, and we quickly realized that success meant being as adaptable as possible. Our response was to listen, learn, and iterate—developing new membership options, adding amenities that truly supported our members’ workflows, and studying best practices from other coworking spaces around the world.

We also bootstrapped the business with very little startup capital, meaning we weren’t paying ourselves as owners and reinvested every bit of profit back into making Createscape better. As we expanded—taking on new spaces and improving our operations—our expenses grew, and with that came the constant challenge of keeping up with a higher bar for sustainability and profitability. But adaptability has always been one of our strengths, and through every challenge, we found ways to evolve and keep Createscape thriving, even as other coworking spaces in Austin came and went.

Then the pandemic hit, and 2020 brought some of our toughest challenges yet. Practically overnight, we lost over half of our memberships as businesses pivoted and people stayed home. However, with safety measures in place, grant funding, business loans, and—most importantly—a dedicated core of members who stuck with us, we made it through. That period reinforced just how vital Createscape was to so many people—not just as a workspace, but as a lifeline for entrepreneurs, freelancers, and creatives who needed a sense of community and structure.

The past five years have been another chapter of growth and change, from hiring new staff members to record membership levels and refining our services and offerings. At every turn, we’ve tried to approach challenges as opportunities—to improve, innovate, and better serve our members. It hasn’t always been easy, but the journey has been incredibly rewarding, and we’re proud to still be here, creating a space where people can do their best work and connect in meaningful ways.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My role at Createscape has evolved significantly over the years. Initially, I wasn’t the primary business partner leading the company, but rather a collaborator—helping shape the vision and bring everything together. However, I’ve always had a natural inclination for leadership, and when I saw challenges with our early business model, I treated them like a puzzle to solve. I became more deeply involved, dedicating my time and skills to strengthening the foundation of the business. Over time, this led me to take the helm as the chief business partner, guiding Createscape’s growth and serving as its Community Manager.

Throughout this journey, I’ve worn many hats—handling everything from operations, marketing, branding, and social media to business development, event planning, and hiring and training staff. In the early days, I worked with a small team, then managed the space alone, gradually building a structure that evolved from volunteers and part-time staff to, most recently, our first full-time employees. Today, as Chief Visionary Officer, my focus is on strategy, leadership, and shaping the future of Createscape. I also host Curious Blend, our podcast where I interview members, creatives, entrepreneurs, and community leaders to share their stories.

I think I’m known for my friendliness, inclusivity, creativity, leadership, and quirky sense of humor. I never set out with the goal of running a coworking space for over a decade, but the challenge of it has always engaged me. More than that, I care deeply about fostering a space where people feel a sense of belonging while doing their best work.

What I’m most proud of is the fact that Createscape has not only lasted over ten years—a feat for any small business, especially in Austin—but that we’ve continued to evolve and thrive. Seeing our community grow, bringing on talented team members, and developing a vision for the future excites me. Laying out ideas and empowering others to bring them to life is where I find the most joy, and I’m grateful to continue shaping a space that so many people call home.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
The coworking industry has already seen a shift toward more dedicated and private workspaces, and I expect that trend to continue as more professionals embrace remote and hybrid work models. At the same time, there’s a growing recognition that working from home—while convenient—can be isolating. People crave real-world interaction, and coworking spaces are uniquely positioned to provide that balance between productivity and community.

I see the next 5–10 years bringing a mix of high-tech and analog experiences. On one hand, there will be smarter workspaces with advanced booking systems, AI-driven productivity tools, and wellness-focused amenities. On the other, I think coworking spaces will double down on creating engaging, in-person experiences that can’t be replicated at home—networking opportunities, social events, creative workshops, and thoughtfully designed spaces that foster connection.

As Austin continues to grow, I also see coworking becoming an essential hub for both long-time locals and newcomers looking to integrate into the city’s creative and entrepreneurial landscape. More than just a place to work, I believe coworking spaces will become vibrant cultural centers—places where people come not just to get things done, but to meet like-minded individuals, collaborate on passion projects, and feel part of something bigger.
