Today we’d like to introduce you to Keyler Maguilbray. Them and their team share their story with us below:
We are very pleased to present Keyler Maguilbray, one of the youngest dance instructors in the Austin Latin Dance Scene but with about a decade of dance experience and an amazing passion & dedication. Someone that has influenced our dance scene teaching, performing, and hosting events!
Keyler got introduced to dancing when she was about seven years old, as her mom used to be part of a dance team in Venezuela. Keyler’s mom loves dancing as much as Keyler does. When Keyler was 10, she decided to go to a practice with her mom and loved to see people dancing. When she was 11, she took her very first Cuban-style salsa class. A year later, when her mom was about to perform, a girl had to retire from the team, so the instructor asked Keyler’s mom if she could try and dance with them. Since then, Keyler hasn’t stopped dancing. Her first performance on stage was with her mom in 2012 back in Venezuela when she was 12. Before coming to the US, Keyler danced for a couple more years and learned more about dancing, Casino Rueda, Bachata, Salsa On1, and a little bit of Kizomba. In 2014, she competed with a Salsa Rueda team in Venezuela. They won First Place in the whole nation.
Keyler moved to the US in 2017, she was so excited to keep dancing and started meeting amazing people that led her into the dance community in Austin. Keyler taught at Austin Inspired Movement for about two years, where she met Nathan, her dance partner, with whom she started to perform and teach together. They got the opportunity to teach at Dallas Bachata Festival in 2018; New Orleans Salsa and Bachata Festival in 2018; As well as performing and teaching at small events all over Texas. In 2019 Keyler & Nathan led their own dance team “Ritmo Unido”.
In 2019, Keyler decided to start teaching in North Austin by herself and get to know more people from the dance community. She opened her very first Salsa and Bachata class at Infusion Dance on Saturday nights. Keyler expresses that it was an amazing experience to start teaching on her own. After dancing for many years, more doors started to open giving Keyler more opportunities to teach, perform with one of the best Salseros and Bachateros in Austin as well as to attend congresses and take classes from the best instructors in the US and other countries.
In 2021, in an effort to expand a little bit more, Keyler created a Ladies Bachata team in Austin called “Bachateras Austin” with whom she trained and performed in local events as well as in the Bachateando Miami 2021.
Later in 2021, Keyler started hosting a Dance Social at Kalahari resort in North Austin on Thursdays every three weeks, where she brings instructors to teach, live bands, and DJs to create a great atmosphere for all the dancers in Austin.
Keyler continues dancing, as always, having the greatest time teaching group classes and private lessons, performing with her team, and hosting Muevete Thursday at Kalahari.
She will be teaching at BIG Salsa Festival, a Bachata fusion Ladies Styling class on Friday night, as well as performing with her Team “Bachateras Austin”.
Here is a quote from Keyler: “Dancing is what I love and what I will always do if I have the opportunity to, I am passionate about seeing people smile and have fun when they are sharing what they love to do. Keep working hard and don’t give up, dancing is not easy but once you get it. You will fall in love with it.“

Have you taken Keyler classes or danced with her in socials? We will love to hear about your experience.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
There has been a lot of struggles along the way. I did not speak English and it was hard to communicate with people and feel confident about myself. I did not have any time to work in dancing since I needed to work a full-time job, and it was hard to make it happen.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I like teaching, making dance routines, and hosting socials for people to have fun. I was always wanted to work with someone else because I did not feel comfortable speaking and expressing myself due to the English barrier. Now, I am teaching classes by myself, hosting events, and bringing the community together.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
My life and business have been good. Overall, just good lunch because I keep improving and learning how to run a business and to be able to grow while doing it. I came to the USA ready to learn and now I am feeling that all the struggles were worth it to make me who I am now.
