Today we’d like to introduce you to Kia Aird
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Had I not been able to travel from El Paso to the greater Austin area, my journey would have been different. My craft began in 2014 through an educational program in my district that allowed me to pursue portrait and studio photography. Having that experience prior to graduating high school influenced me to venture out into different genres of photography in order to fulfill my goal: helping people see themselves through unbiased eyes. This has translated into my business motto of “Your Vision, Our Lens”. Prime Contrast Media has been brought into existence through many trials and tribulations, deep faith, and a vast group of supportive people in my life.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When it comes to obstacles, I’ve been challenged by my ego the entire time. Whether that was stopping for a while due to thinking “everyone is a photographer with an iPhone” or, “ I’m worth more than this”, my ego blinded me from my personal pursuit of my livelihood one way or another.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Over the last 5 months, I’ve had the opportunity to work with over 20 artists/bands, get a studio space secured, photograph 2 charity events, a weddings, and other sessions with individuals. I am aware of how comfortable I make people feel when they work with me so I make sure to focus on that in every session I have. This ensures that my clients get the best quality from their photos and more importantly, walk away feeling confident in themselves or their craft.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Patience, grace, and forgiveness are concepts I’ve leaned into throughout my entire journey. Since I’ve done this, I have been able to learn that everyone has something going on in their lives and therefore, deserve overall grace. A flat tire is a flat tire no matter how big or small the vehicle is.
