Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Kendrick.
Hi Lauren, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up enamored with Fashion. I would read Teen Vogue, YM, J-14, Seventeen which ultimately morphed into Vogue, Glamour, Harper’s Bazaar, InStyle, etc. I wanted to absorb as much Fashion as I could get my hands on. I absolutely loved seeing the models in the newest collections the Designers had created. I’m a visual person, so yes I was mostly in it for the pictures. I never really had the ideal job/career course in mind as a child, I knew I wanted more than the “typical” childhood answer of Ballerina, Doctor, Vet, etc., but never really had a specific path in mind either. I knew I didn’t want to be the adult who absolutely hated their job! When it came time for college applications and deciding on a major, I thought History would be a good path, I love learning from the past and it seemed like a great fit, but then when it was time to transfer to University, I stumbled upon this major called Fashion Merchandising. At Texas State, I really started on the path to learning what I want out of life. The Fashion classes I took, being a part of the Fashion Merchandising Organization, getting to network with companies in the Fashion Industry was so incredible. I found out more information about different areas of the Fashion world, especially what I knew I would not like! I did find areas that I love (Modeling) and would love to be more involved in. I took my knowledge and worked with some boutiques and worked a bit of bigger retail, and as social media has become so prevalent in our lives, found a place that I definitely love with a company I wholeheartedly believe in. I am more productive with my ideas and dreams when I have balance in my life. (I’m a Libra, all about the balance!) My interests are vast from fashion, interior decorating, music, film, traveling, and sustainability. I love exploring and learning new things and ways to incorporate them into my life. Which in turn I hope to utilize to help make the world better and healthier for us all.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My path has not been completely smooth, but I feel that I’m still on the road finding my way in the way that makes sense for me. I’ve had setbacks such as having to move back in with my parents, which is a bit of a blow to the pride. I worked in a few jobs that I thought were going to be great and turned out not to be the job for me. Making enough income to support myself in this industry has definitely been trying at times. Then the big gut punch of course has been Covid, and navigating through this and seeing what’s important for me.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m currently an Affiliate for White Rhino Handbags. I market/promote on social media, assist at Markets, and I also model. I absolutely love modeling! I would love to do more! My grandmother used to always ask if I was moving to New York to Model, so I feel I’m making her proud when I model. I mean playing dress-up for a living is #Goals. (Is my Millennial showing?!) In 2018 on my Instagram stories, I did a segment I called Sustainability Sunday. On Sundays, I would talk about different ways to be Sustainable, Eco-friendly, Vegan, and Cruelty-Free. I would share information and have polls, question box, and take topic requests for engagement. After a year or so, it started feeling stagnant, so I decided it was time for a pause. Maybe one day I’ll start the segment again… I still love sharing and finding ways to be sustainable. My wish is that living sustainably is accessible for all. I believe what sets me apart is that I like to go after the unusual or not so well known, I’m not much for trends. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve gotten sucked into a few, but I want to wear or do or see something that nobody else has! I want to be the Leader not the Follower!
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Apps: I’m mostly on Instagram, find a lot of Fashion accounts and can connect with people and companies usually pretty smoothly, and Pinterest (visual person) so vision boards! Books: I just read Untamed by Glennon Doyle and I believe everyone should read it, it really got me out of my Covid-Funk! Reminded me to get back out there and kick ass! Podcasts: Films to be Buried With-Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent in Ted Lasso) I’m a big movie buff, so listening to people’s favorites and hearing their stories is really inspiring and makes me want to go watch the ones I haven’t yet. Plus Brett just seems like the sweetest guy, so taking that reminder to just be kind to one another! Watching movies and tv shows are my escape, when I need to “getaway” from something that’s bothering me, or just to unwind, a movie and/or tv show is my go-to! Plus seeing the Fashion definitely inspirational and peaks my curiosity! Music is also a big deal to me, it gives me the space to feel my feelings and also get out of feelings! Traveling: absolutely love traveling to see and experience different places and cultures, which is really great for finding Fashion inspiration!
