Daily Inspiration: Meet Lauren Parsons

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Parsons.

Hi Lauren, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Just about three years ago I started modeling and through that, I started to become interested in what was happening on the other side of the camera. I began dabbling with photography with my sister and my friends, and I slowly fell in love with it. Recently, I made the decision to pursue this passion and start shooting with more and more people that I didn’t know, building my portfolio and making connections with amazing people. Now all I do is photography, and I could not honestly be happier.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
A couple of months ago I had a falling out with my best friend and that may have been the best action that pushed me to put myself out there. I used to have her model for all and any photos I wanted to take, and with losing that, I was launched into meeting new faces which helped to expand my career further. My dad has always said to me to “do the things that scare you,” and that has helped change the feeling of anxiety of meeting new people into high energy that I believe helps bring out my personality at shoots. Everyone I have had the opportunity of working with since my push has been so incredibly nice and talented that it really shows that you can make the best of a bad situation and come out on top.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a photographer specializing in portraits, boudoir, and fashion. One thing I am most proud of is my ability to see both sides of the camera. Having experience now in both modeling and photography has given me the unique skill to communicate what I want more clearly and understand how to direct the model to achieve this. I love capturing a moment and I am notorious for staying up late editing or really any second of the day I can. I believe my editing style separates me from other photographers. I like to keep my photos as natural looking as possible so that the model recognizes themselves. By working with other creatives in the community, I know how I prefer my photos to look in the aspect of color/tone/how natural and I primarily focus on the style that I prefer that most enhance natural beauty.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
COVID-19 has definitely been a push to find new ways to network. Considering I really started my business later on in the year 2020, I have had more business contacting people over social media instead of in person. I also had the first boudoir event that I hosted, which consists of multiple girls in the same location. While I was nervous initially, through a system of time slots, masks, and sanitizing/bleaching between shoots, I was able to successfully meet and capture six beautiful girls that day, an amazing introduction to understand comfortability and safety within shoots due to COVID-19 changes.
