Daily Inspiration: Meet Lauren Robertson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Robertson.

Hi Lauren, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I got into ceramics while living in San Francisco about 15 years ago, after taking a class with a friend. I just kept at it. Wheel-throwing can be so frustrating, but I loved being able to create even the most basic functional wares. I still have a few of the first things I made- they’re so heavy!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It’s been a long road for sure! Getting a home kiln and studio set up was a challenge due to space constraints. I work out of my (currently very hot) detached garage. I have plans for a mini-renovation, but it’s been a such crazy year I haven’t had time to do it yet.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I make functional stoneware ceramics meant to be a part of your everyday rituals. I’m best known for my small-batch candles poured into wheel-thrown, sustainable, re-usable vessels. I am most proud of my collaboration with Hotel Magdalena for their signature scent candle.

How do you define success?
Success is doing what you love to do (and hopefully making a living at it).
