Hi Lauren, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Lauren Valdez, a proud Latina and a single mom who has been in the nail industry for over 12 + years. Along the way, I’ve balanced raising my three kids while putting myself through school. It’s been a journey filled with challenges, but my family has always been my biggest support system, and they continue to cheer me on every step of the way.
I started my career working independently and soon received offers to manage nail salons; in doing so, I gained valuable experience and skills. After years of hard work and dedication, I alongside my family members decided to invest in my vision and finally open my own business—EDGY NAILS 512, we opened our doors on November 12th 2024. I wanted to create a space where I could offer quality services in a place that feels like home for my clients.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve spent over 12 years balancing motherhood, school, and building my career in the nail industry. There were long nights, financial challenges, and moments of doubt while trying to grow professionally and provide for my family.
Starting independently, stepping into management roles, and eventually taking the leap to open EDGY NAILS 512 on November 12, 2024 all came with risks and responsibility. But every challenge strengthened my resilience, leadership, and passion. The journey hasn’t been easy — but it’s been incredibly rewarding.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a nail artist first, I specialize in intricate, trendy, edgy nail art with a strong focus on nail health. I’m known for detailed custom designs, flawless ombrés, acrylic extensions, and structured gel manicures that not only look bold and unique but also protect and maintain the integrity of the natural nail.
In addition to advanced nail services, we offer classic gel manicures and pedicures, along with esthetic services like full body waxing, brow tinting and lamination, and vagacials — creating a well-rounded self-care experience.
What I’m most proud of is mastering both creativity and care — delivering statement nails without compromising health. What sets me apart is the balance of edgy artistry, precision, and a boutique-style environment that gives clients a personalized, elevated experience every time.
What does success mean to you?
I define success as building something meaningful that aligns with my values while creating stability and opportunity for my family and my team. Success isn’t just financial — it’s having loyal clients who trust me, a strong team that feels supported, and a business that reflects my creativity and standards.
It’s knowing that I can provide for my children, inspire other Latina entrepreneurs, and create a space where people feel confident, cared for, and empowered. For me, success is growth — personally, professionally, and as a leader — while staying authentic to who I am.
