Today we’d like to introduce you to Mario Tamez.
Hi Mario , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started working as a producer and director at 23 in Mexico City, and by 25 I had moved to Baja California for an opportunity to work with clients both in the U.S. and Mexico. After five years and many productions, I gained a great deal of experience—especially as an editor—which led me to reach out to Mosaic Media Films and apply for the editor position. Today, I’m proud to say that I serve as Lead Editor at this company, with which I share many values and a strong work ethic. I can honestly say it came at the perfect time for me, and I feel very fortunate and happy with what I do.
Storytelling is my passion.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was challenging to:
1. learn video production on the go, since every project had high expectations and each one was different — you can’t really say no, you have to find solutions for every client. But that’s the best way to learn.
2. master the language — I learned about 95% of the English I speak today by working with people who only spoke English.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
When I got my first record album. It was the album Thriller by Michael Jackson. I still have it. I spent about a month listening to it daily with my parents, granma and sister.
