Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Martin.
Hi Megan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Music was always a huge thing in my household coming up. I started singing in the school choir at age six, and it never really started after that. During high school, she was a 3x Gold Medalist at the Indiana Solo & Ensemble Competition. I think my path into the music industry really started at age 14 when I began recording with my older siblings in their home studios. They were already making music so it was just natural for me to say “hey, I can do this too.” That experience led me to model and trying to build up an image and name for myself in entertainment. Over the last five or so years, I participated in various pageants, including the official Miss Indiana USA and Miss Texas USA. I also played SXSW 2016/17, and appeared on Young Noble’s “Outlaw Nation ” mixtape, and participated in the Chicagoland Cypher. It’s been a steady grind, but over time I’ve built up my following and online presence with over 500,000 YouTube views, 40,000+ Twitter followers, and over 10,000 Instagram followers so Im really just looking forward to building on that foundation and taking everything to the next level as an artist and a business owner.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, and I ran into a lot of obstacles along the way, but I also had many invaluable learning experiences. At first it was really hard trying to make ends meet while trying to figure out how to have a successful music career. To be honest, there were times when I just wanted to give up. I was trying to manage myself and wanted to develop my brand, but I didn’t really have anyone to provide guidance on how to make it in the music industry as a professional musician. As my career progressed, I eventually connected with my now manager Jag and together began to understand more about the business side of music and how we could create and leverage a brand to produce more income and revenue streams as an independent artist(s).
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Youtube is really helpful because I can place my music on there with videos and it allows people to see and hear my music for free. Also, Spotify, SoundCloud, and Instagram are all helpful apps to use for music.
