Daily Inspiration: Meet Michael Flores

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Flores

Hi Michael, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My story started off when it came time for me to start a new life in a brand new city. States a way from any family or friends to see if I could find a new place to call home. First transferred with the help of the company I had been working for at the time, and once I had arrived here to Austin, TX I realized there were far more opportunities and quickly found myself being drawn to service industry work. Started off as a server for a local restaurant, from there I seized an opportunity to work for some amazing people who taught me a lot about working behind a bar and now that’s were I am still today. It may not sound like much but for me its exactly where I want to be.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to get to where I am has been smooth in the sense that I didn’t hesitate to make changes or take opportunities that felt like the best for my overall growth. The struggle came from just the long hours working, studying, working on improving my skills in hospitality and bartending. Like with most things, its only been more difficult the older I become but it all just pushes me to be better everyday.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My work all revolves around Hospitality for guest experience and the growth and development of service industry professionals. In the simplest terms I am a bartender and I am currently working on forming a service industry guild that will focus on giving its members the resources to grow in their fields of work and also personal lives. The thing that I want to focus on that I believe will set the guild apart from other similar options is the amount of focus, time and effort into our members really making sure they are taken care of since they spent so much of their time taking care of others.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Service industry and Hospitality is going to continue to be a long lasting industry. That being said, now more than ever the importance of giving industry workers the guidance, help and just overall support they need to achieve their goals is first and foremost for the guild I’m currently creating. The biggest shifts being that depending on where you work, geographical or institution there are challenges that we hope to help guide members through if they so needed to help.
