Daily Inspiration: Meet Nathan Kemnitz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nathan Kemnitz.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve lived in the Austin area my entire life. I come from an entrepreneurial family and have owned boats for over 10 years now. I decided to marry my knowledge of business and boating and took a leap of faith and started this venture in March of 2022. It has not been without its challenges but I made the decision to do this back in late December 2021 and purchased a larger, brand-new boat in January. I enjoy seeing people happy on the lake whether with family, friends, special events or a combination of the three. I plan on expanding this business as it grows so we will see what the future holds!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road to say the least. Having owned boats for years now I understand what it takes to maintain and keep a boat running but there have been high winds at times that have caused minor damage that have brought on unwanted expenses. Setting up the business correctly while running my day job as a software professional were exhausting at first but I am seeing it run very smoothly at this point. You have to have a more than average amount of capital to start a boat business and that’s after you purchase the boat. There are many expenses and items to purchase. I don’t expect to turn a profit until the next season. Nothing great happens without challenges or risk right?

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
During the week I am an Account Executive that negotiates software contracts for large enterprise companies. I have been doing this for about 15 years now. What sets me apart from other boat rental companies is that I have the professional background in communicating with clients, family business experience, as well as being mechanically inclined to fix things when and as they arise. I am dedicated to making this business work out in the long term. My family has owned businesses since the 1970’s so it’s what I’ve known as I’ve grown up.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Watching my dad and my grandfathers fix things around the house and talk about how their businesses were growing.
