Daily Inspiration: Meet Patrick Moran

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrick Moran.

Hi Patrick, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I love to create images! I spent most of my time in high school and college taking classes in drawing, painting, photography, and sculpture. However, once I left school I found myself doing fewer and fewer creative projects. So, in 2015, I decided to embark on a year-long daily drawing discipline. It opened my eyes to how much I need to have creativity in my life. Although this project seemed daunting at first, it became easier and easier as each day went by. Not only did I feel more like a working artist, but it also introduced me to many other artists who pushed me further than I thought I could go.

I continue to create work on a regular basis. I am always searching for new opportunities to share my work and collaborate with other creatives wherever I can!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
With any journey, there have been plenty of roadblocks along the way and I assume there will be more in the future.

It may sound cliche but I find that every setback gives me the opportunity to reevaluate my priorities and self-reflect.

The main struggle is to stay focused and motivated and the best way I can do that is to stay consistent. Every moment I can, I sit down and start working. The more I work the easier it gets to keep working.

My advice to any creative person is to create as much as possible and never be afraid. There will always be more work to do.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My work has always contained figurative elements created using traditional methods such as pen, ink, and acrylic paint. During my studies, I have recently incorporated a digital element and developed a dialogue between the mediums.

I am most known for working with ink and watercolor to create images of people. These images have a whimsical and ethereal nature but can contain dark subtext.

I am very proud of the body of work I have created through my consistency and willingness to experiment.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
It is difficult to point to one memory but I always remember fondly the times I could create with my friends.
