Today we’d like to introduce you to Priya Gokhale.
Hi Priya, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a singer and my journey in music started at the young age of 05 years at home. I come from a musical family. In childhood, when my parents used to play old songs on cassettes, I used to learn the tune, variations, lyrics of the song and sing it. Then I started learning Indian Classical Vocals from my Guru, Smt. Geeta Joshi, I completed the certification course of Sangeet Visharad in Indian Classical Vocals.
I have been giving singing performances on stage in musical events, festivals, weddings and community programs since childhood. I started singing as a child artist in a small town Guna (India), performed there and in nearby places. In childhood; me, my father, my mother, and my elder sister. We used to travel out of town also for singing performances. Sometimes the performances used to go until morning.
Later I gave performances in Indore (India), got many singing opportunities in Pune (India) and now I am performing in US. I continued my singing career after my marriage and after becoming a mother too. My parents, husband, and in-laws support and encourage me to follow my passion.
As a singer, I learned a lot by singing songs of Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosale and Alka Yagnik. When I was young, I used to sing the song “Dil hai chota sa”, so my group members started calling me Choti si Asha. Plus, I used to sing Asha Bhosale’s songs a lot, so the name Choti si Asha covered both aspects. ”
I sing various genres like Bollywood songs, Garbha, Ghazal, Marathi songs and Indian Classical. I practiced for years to reach to this pitch, and perfection. My quest for learning in the field of music continues even today!
I have done a lot of theme-based shows like Kishore Kumar-Asha Bhosale, Kumar Sanu-Alka Yagnik, Mohammad Rafi-Lata Mangeshkar, did 9 days Navaratri shows in which I sang Hindi+Gujrati songs, did Ghazal events giving tribute to Jagjit Singh-Chitra Singh and I thoroughly enjoy singing the Dance numbers and make my audience dance.”
In Austin, I appeared at:
Austin Marathi Mandal, Round Rock Diwali Event, Travisso Community Event, Mr/Miss/Mrs. Bharat Texas 2022, South Asian New Year Festival, Domain Diwali and Garba Event, and KOOPS radio.
“Currently, I am working on composing my own songs. You will soon get to listen to them.”
To contribute to the society, I started writing and speaking. I started sharing my thoughts and tips to live life to the fullest on my blog www.priyagokhale.com and on my other YouTube channel. (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCB4MsmsQ3-M1N43PG_kzaiA). My initial thought was that “in my current situation, I am not able to grow however, why not do something to help others to grow in their life.”
Coming from a small-town middle-class family, I have always inculcated the values of growing together in the close-knit community. My vision is to uplift and empower people across the globe. I will continue to connect with people through Music and Inspire them through my thought-provoking content.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
“There was a time when I was unable to work and was not able to pursue my singing career. I continued my Riyaz (singing practices) and continued learning further from my Guru, Vandana Ravalallu. Parallely, I kept publishing blogs, wisdom quotes and videos.
Another challenge I faced is that initially when I started, some organizers didn’t use to pay.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My uniqueness is that I am a versatile singer. I sing various genres like Bollywood, Garbha, Ghazals, Indian Classical, and Marathi songs. I like to engage and interact with the audience during my performances. I like to add a little dance, feelings and enthusiasm to it, so people like to listen as well as see me while singing.
My parents have always told me to be helpful to people. We all have ups and downs in life. Along with singing I am also doing my bit to uplift people and add value to their lives from my experiences, and my learnings. I am following my passion for music and my inner call that drives me to create motivational content.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
My own blog www.priyagokhale.com. Writing and sharing thoughts has been absolutely a learning experience for me. I could explore my potential while following my inner voice and spreading positivity in other’s life. I am glad that it changed my life and other’s life too.
