Daily Inspiration: Meet Rebekah Manley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebekah Manley.

Rebekah Manley

Hi Rebekah, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
By dreaming as much as possible! Full Stop! I became a published author through hard work and a childhood dream nurtured since third grade – special shoutout to Mrs. Lauderdale. Pursuing my passion, I earned my MFA in Writing Children’s Literature from Hollins University. I also studied often at the Writing Barn. I kept community with other writers and organizations like the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and the Writers’ League of Texas. I have created endless manuscripts, articles, and writings and continue to pelt my heart out there. With the support of my fantastic agent, Natalie Lakosil, my debut book, “Alexandra and the Awful, No Fun, Truly Bad Dates: A Picture Book Parody for Adults,” came to life. It was interesting because I thought my first book would be published for children. Still, it has emerged as a delightful hybrid–weaving funny, heartbreaking, and empowering dating stories into a picture book for adults. Through an incredible team of interns, I started Love, Bekah – a greeting card business for women. Our company embodies the ethos of uplifting women within our team. From the beginning, our greeting cards have been infused with sass and empowerment of overcoming heartbreak. We’re now expanding our offerings that celebrate everyday moments! We just launched Galentine’s Day stickers and journals to show women’s support.

Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Inscribed in the dedication of my book are heartfelt thanks: “I dedicate my first book to my team of family and friends. Writing and dating are not solitary sports. No matter the score, you loved me, listened through heartache, cheered fiercely, and kept me laughing. Thank you for believing in me.”

The writing world mirrors the complexities of dating – it’s subjective and filled with moments like “I love this, but it’s not right for me now” or “I would’ve bought it three years ago.” I believe a beautiful correlation exists between continuously putting out your heart, primarily through writing–so full of heartbreak. Yet, when my cards find homes in stores and my voice is featured in publications like this, I feel like, “Wow, this matters.” There have been many obstacles, marked by countless “no’s” to get to the “yes.” Often, joy and heartbreak sit side by side like plump, happy bunnies, and that is how life is, and it’s feeding and growing me.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a creative visionary behind Love, Bekah, LLC, and a mentor to an exceptional team of interns. I’m a workshop leader, mentor to writers, team member, merchandise creator and seller, twin, auntie, twirler, dreamer, and lover of life.

What were you like growing up?
I envision myself adorned with a pink bow, probably more significant than the circumference of my face, and turtle-shell glasses, sporting a beaming smile. As a happy, curious girl with dreams, I effortlessly ventured to imaginary lands and befriended strangers. As I grew up, I learned to put my aspirations into action. Surrounded by love throughout my life, I’m grateful for the support of my family and friends, who have helped me navigate my unconventional path. I take pride in the determination of my younger self! Little Rebekah, dear dreamer, we are doing it!
