Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie J. Schiller.
Hi Stephanie J., thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My art career started as a fashion illustration instructor in 2010 at Austin School of Fashion Design. I taught kids aged 8-16 how to sketch their own croquis (fashion poses) and design their own clothes. That experience taught me how to simplify my lessons so kids could easily understand and express themselves. It was the start of everything. From there I started taking illustration commissions that led to working with a variety of personal and corporate clients. In 2017 I founded Vogue Vignette, a company that specializes in live fashion sketching for events. Since then it’s been an award winning art business that’s provided creative opportunities for artists from all over the world.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
In terms of Vogue Vignette it wasn’t a super smooth road. I had to create a new market in my area and really show people something new that was possible for events. As soon as it started picking up in popularity I began booking more events across the country. It was such an exciting time and also meant a lot of back end work that I wasn’t prepared for. I spent less time in-studio making artwork and more time learning about creating solid processes and procedures and how to build a successful business. It was learning how to use a different side of my brain. It came with a lot of obstacles but I learned so much through the process and am so grateful.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in fashion illustration. It’s been one of my favorite forms of artwork since my time at UT Austin studying Apparel Design. In 2014, I started illustrating here and there at events. By 2017, it had picked up so much that I formed Vogue Vignette, the company that I am most known for. Vogue Vignette is an award winning art studio that transforms guests into high fashion works of art, live at events of all kinds. We’ve worked with amazing clients like Neiman Marcus, Tiffany & Co, Fendi and were the first fashion illustrators to illustrate for The Kentucky Derby and the F1 Grand Prix. We provide creative opportunities for artists from all over the world. That’s one of the things I’m proudest of.
What matters most to you? Why?
My family, friends and community matter most to me. I’m treated with so much love, respect and kindness by the ones I love that I aim to treat others that I meet whether it’s in my personal or professional life with the same kindnress.
