Today we’d like to introduce you to Victor Diaz.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Carabuena was inspired by founder Victor Diaz’s deep roots in Jalisco, Mexico, where he was born and raised among the agave fields. His vision was to capture the spirit of Jalisco in a bottle while staying connected to Austin, Texas, the city Victor now calls home. After moving to Austin in 2012, Victor quickly became immersed in the local Austin culture while working at Maudie’s. As a bartender there, Austinities couldn’t help but fall in love with Victor. His ambition and drive to create Carabuena was so strong it eventually led some of his regular Maudie’s guests to become investors, co-founders, employees, and lifelong supporters.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Our growth has been driven by staying true to our original mission of forming lasting partnerships and building a strong community around the brand. We aim to support those who have supported us along the way, as well as others trying to create their own dreams. Carabuena is for those who believe in living their best selves, and the brand has grown by being part of shared experiences that bring that vision to life.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What sets Carabuena apart from its competitors?
Carabuena is rooted in authentic craftsmanship, with everything—from our agave to the glass bottles—sourced directly from Mexico. Our tequila is made in Jalisco, each bottle is handcrafted from recycled glass in Tonalá, and our bottle artwork is created by local Mexican artist Pistache and our vision comes directly from Victor, born and raised in Jalisco. Our commitment to giving back and supporting our communities is also what sets Carabuena apart. While we sell tequila, we’re here to support and showcase artists, musicians, bartenders, and chefs who want to live their best selves and truly inspire others.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Keep Dreaming and Keep pushing forward. I dreamed of this since growing up in the agave fields in Mexico and I can’t believe I finally got to do what I always dreamed of. Be vocal about your passions and surround yourself with people who love and support you and make sure you always give that back too.
