Daily Inspiration: Meet Violet Voss

Today we’d like to introduce you to Violet Voss.

Hi Violet, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My name is Violet Voss, and I am a freelance traveling model. As a young girl, I dreamed of becoming a supermodel. I loved everything about it, the hair and makeup, the extravagant looks, the fashion shows, etc. Numerous people in the industry told me that it would be tough to break into because of the strict requirements regarding the shape and size of your body. I let my fear get the worst of me, and I decided to pursue another career path while only modeling as a hobby. Throughout my late teens and early twenties, I would work with local photographers and model for them in fashion and editorial-style photoshoots. I did not realize then that there was money to make in freelance modeling. I stopped modeling for a couple of years to focus on my career, which eventually had me feeling very drained and unhappy. Fast forward to 2022, I quit my 9-5 job to start modeling again because I knew that was my true dream. I am now a full-time traveling model working for myself. I am making more money than in the career I previously had, and I am also much happier.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There’s never going to be a career path with no obstacles. As a freelance model, the obstacles/ challenges I have faced have been minimal. The biggest challenge I have faced is booking photographers. Because I am a traveling model, I have to post in advance my upcoming travel dates and times I’m available for photoshoots. Because a lot of the photographers I work with only do this as a hobby, I have to be lenient around their work schedules which can make it tricky when booking a travel trip because I need 15-20 photographers over a 3-4 day period to net my goal income for the trip. Another challenge in being a model is most of the photoshoots I’m a part of. I am required to show up with my hair and makeup done. I generally have to provide a wardrobe to shoot in as well. While I don’t see this as a challenge, some people may. Overall, there are a few challenges to what I do, and I am very grateful for that.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For readers who might need to become more familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a freelance traveling model. I specialize in fashion/ glamour, boudoir, artistic nudity, and fetish-related photography. As a freelance model, I have the choice to decide what kind of work I would like to do, so one thing that I’ve heard repeatedly that sets me apart from other models in the industry is my ability to shoot a wide array of genres. Photographers that book me usually like to mix and match the genres I listed above because of how easily I can switch between them. What I’ve found and heard sets me apart from other models in the industry is my professionality and punctuality. Unlike many models in the industry, I have a contract with each photographer I shoot with. It outlines shoot expectations, payment, and other legal terms relevant to the type of shoot. This contract must be executed along with a deposit before I consider the photoshoot booked. Unfortunately, because of this type of work, there can be some potentially dangerous situations people may try to take advantage of, so to protect myself, I have these measures in place.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting?
It’s quite easy to become a freelance model. I love that you can be any shape or size without strict runway model requirements. Put yourself out there, and be willing to make mistakes and learn from them. Be professional and punctual; you’ll be surprised how often these things are missed. My biggest advice, though, is to put your safety first. While you don’t require a contract or deposit as I do, you need to have measures in place to protect yourself and ensure the “photographer” you are booking with is legit and is not trying to endanger you in any way. Some people claim to be “photographers” who are not and will try to take advantage of the situation if they can, with safety first.
