Today we’d like to introduce you to Amelia Raley. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Amelia grew up in North West Arkansas and moved to Austin in 2008. She started making ice cream at Toy Joy/Dhaba Joy on 29th and Guadalupe while living at the House of Commons co-op. In her spare time, Amelia enjoys spinning 78 rpm records on her 1907 phonograph record player.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I first started Sweet Ritual, we were one of the only dairy-free ice cream shops on earth! Now that dairy-free is a rising trend in eating, we are reformulating some of our classic flavors to stand apart from the crowd. We’re ditching the Salted Caramel and going for a whiskey-spiked Praline Pecan!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Sweet Ritual ice cream parlor opened in 2011 with the philosophy that ice cream is more than just a treat, it’s an important marker of life’s important moments. Also, that no one should be left out of the joys of eating ice cream because they don’t eat dairy for dietary or ethical reasons. In the past ten years, Sweet Ritual has developed some of the highest-quality and most original non-dairy ice creams in the world. Sweet Ritual operates a scoop shop, an ice cream production facility, and a wholesale business.
What’s next?
As for plans to spring back after the pandemic- we’re doubling down on the community. We’re all healing and coming back after covid because community heals. Birthday parties heal. Date nights heal. Trips out with friends heal. Sweet Ritual is a part of that.
