Today we’d like to introduce you to Anita Castaneda.
Hi Anita , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started out by becoming a licensed nail technician, pursued teaching others to do nails and me and my husband Emmanuel Castaneda opened up my nail school in 2023. When I was in Cosmetology School I did not really learn anything as far as why I enrolled in nail school and told myself, if I ever open up my school I will teach everything there is to know about nails, Also with me being a Medical Assistant and being in the medical field over 20 years that helped a lot with my Manicurist license to see how Health plays a big role in Beauty. So, I also incorporated the Medical Nail Technician program in my school as well, there are a lot of people out there that do not know the importance of having healthy hands and toes to prevent infection or losing limbs especially if you are diabetic. My school goes into dept about it and has also linked up with Podiatrist around the metroplex and now have to where if a student would like to apply their skills to the medical field the podiatrist welcomes them with open arms. I am beyond blessed to have the success that I have because of my students; they believe in me and make the school what it is. They play a big role because they want this for themselves and I am here to back them up and give them a career that not only have so much potential but to show them that if you feel like you’re not good at something there is a whole other world out there that is lacking other services you could offer then just apply acrylics, for example, manicures, pedicures, gel x a Poly Gel nail technician, a Medical nail Technician, etc. there has been many times I have wanted to give up, because the economy is very hard, and everyone is pretty much self-taught, but it’s the students again that do take their career seriously and want to elevate from being limited of what they can do vs. the nail technicians that DO NOT hold a legit license that hold themselves back and there are some awesome self-taught nail technicians that can go sooooo far if they just take that leap of faith to get their license, but those ones keep me going and I love them for that. Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road to opening a nail cosmetology school has not been easy at all, their has been many times I wanted to throw in the towel and give up. My husband Emmanuel played a big part of me not giving up, he built my school and put in long hours of hard work even after his long day at work, along with some of my good friends that pushed me and my kids, I had signed my lease 8 months prior to getting approved for my school to even get the license to start enrolling, Imagine having to pay rent for 8 months, with no students enrolled and keeping the building up and running waiting on approval, I kid you not the day we had packed up the majority of our stuff and was going to give up, the next day we received the letter in the mail that the school was finally approved. It was such a relief, but we still had the challenge of NOW enrolling students, who would give my school a chance when their was a couple of cosmetology schools around me including the one I graduated from, My prayer and faith was on the line. I had 4 students take a chance on me and because of them I will forever be greatful.

We have also incorporated our nail supply store that is now located in the nail school and will later on expand to provide mail orders as well, We will also add more students to the medical nail technician program
What’s next?
our future plans of the school is to incorporate more of the medical side, to allow people who have underlying issues to come comfortable to our school and get taken care of to help with preventative care and make them feel beautiful and feel good about themselves, my partner which is a Podiatrist and has his own multiple practices around Arlington, Tx, Weatherford, Mineral wells, and Farmers Branch sees the passion and importance of the school as well. We also are in the works to open up our nail supply store called VIVA DE BEEAUTY CO. that we have in our nail school at this time but will start working on mail orders for nail supplies.
