Hi Annie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As soon as I graduated from esthetics school, I jumped right into waxing. Worked for 3 different waxing chains before starting my own business. I wouldn’t have done it any other way, because working at the chains helped me learned different techniques, proper customer service, and product knowledge from different brands. Having my own business also allowed me the freedom to try different waxes and products to help determine what was best for my clientele. I am 2 years into my business with 5 years of experience under my belt.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There were definitely struggles along the way. To be thorough with the proper licenses and certifications. The hardest part was building my clientele. I had to be consistent with posting on social media and advertising.
As you know, we’re big fans of Yours Truly Waxing. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I offer full body waxing, lash lifts, and brow lamination. What sets me apart from others is my technique, product, and environment. Those are the things that I’m most proud of. My technique is something that I have perfected, taking a little bit from what I’ve learned from each chain I worked at. My products/ wax is something that I have tried out myself, experimented with different wax brands, and collected much feedback from clients as well. My environment/space that I created for my clients is something I take extreme pride in. I understand that waxing can be very intimate and intimidating. So I created a space that feels cozy with light music, rather than a space with bright lights and empty walls.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
I’ve learned that you can’t sit around and think people will come just because you’re new; you have to put yourself out there daily, be consistent with your work, and practice. Once you are confident in your craft, others will see that as well and set you apart from other places.
