Today we’d like to introduce you to AnnMarie Olson DDS
Hi AnnMarie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began working in Dentistry at the age of 15! I wrote a letter to my orthodontist in High School typing class asking for a summer job, and my career in Dentistry began. Over summers and Christmas breaks, I worked my way around the office, from lab to assistant to front desk to bookkeeping, and began my training in Dentistry, and as a business owner. I followed in my orthodontist mentor’s footsteps, and was very involved in organized Dentistry on the state, local and national levels of the American Dental Association, and the American Association of Women Dentists. I was elected president of the Texas Association of Women Dentists immediately out of Dental School, and was the first female elected President of the Capital Area Dental Society at the young age of 32. I represented Texas as the District Trustee to the American Association of Women Dentists. I followed my mostly male role models, and excelled as a woman in a mostly man’s world.
I grew from a young dentist, asking my own dentist for an associate position – only to be told no – to starting my own practice in an office sharing arrangement – to opening my own office and hiring associate dentists. In 2021, I had the inspiration and the opportunity to buy an office condo, and designed the office and practice of my dreams. In designing the new office, I knew I wanted to move beyond the traditional model and created a modern, yet comfortable space for patients to feel at ease.
I changed the name of the practice from AnnMarie Olson DDS, PA to Restora Dental Arts to represent the art and science of dentistry, and that the practice is more than just me. Restora Dental Arts includes our team and providers, and broadens the practice from a General and Cosmetic Dentistry to include Sedation Dentistry, Clear Aligners, Sleep Apnea and Airway Therapy, Oral Surgery and Dental Implants. It’s a blend of high tech with digital scanners, CAD CAM design and modern technology, with a soft touch.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
In my over 35 years of Dentistry – things have changed quite a bit, and some things remain the same. We have moved from following the “male as head” dentist model to celebrating our multiple male and female dentists, associates and team members. I wish I could say that the days of “my girls”, “sweetie” and darlin’” are done, but they remain. Recently, while working with a practice coach, he referred to me as “sweetie”. Even today, when over 50% of new dentists are women, I will still be asked “which doctor do you work for?” while walking a convention floor and looking at vendor booths. I remind them that “I AM the doctor”.
We can do better. We should do better.

We provide comprehensive care including General and Cosmetic Dentistry, Sedation Dentistry, Clear Aligners including Invisalign and Sure Smile, Sleep Apnea and Airway Therapy, Tongue and Oral Tie Release, Oral Surgery and Dental Implants. It’s a blend of high tech with digital scanners and modern technology, within a modern relaxing space. Although we offer high tech digital 3D technology, we are really in the “relationship” business. We offer advanced dental care – from the heart.
What does success mean to you?
To me, success is not numbers, metrics, charts and statements – it’s people. We recently helped a dear friend and patient who had a terrible bicycle accident. The happiness she felt after we helped her by restoring her beautiful smile – that is success.
