Exploring Life & Business with Bishop Chappell of Trio Property Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bishop Chappell

Bishop, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hey there, I’m Bishop Chappell, and if there’s one thing you should know about me, it’s that I’m passionate about making a difference—be it in real estate, my local neighborhood community, or the broader city of Austin, Texas.

My journey began in the healthcare industry, where I spent years as an executive championing innovation to enhance patient experiences and streamline operations. Despite a rewarding career, I felt a pull towards my true passion – real estate. With over 15 years of experience as a strategy consultant, I decided to pivot and pursue what truly lit my fire.
Real estate isn’t just about buying and selling homes; it’s about finding the perfect community for each client. It’s about that moment when you see a family’s eyes light up because they’ve found the place they want to call home. My wife, Courtney, and I have renovated a few homes ourselves, so I know firsthand the joy of creating a space that meets buyers unique needs and building for a purpose.

But my passion doesn’t stop with real estate. As a long-time resident of Austin, I’m deeply involved in the community. From serving on the Austin Tourism Commission to being part of the grassroots movement Rethink35, I’m all about pushing for smarter city planning and better infrastructure. We’re talking about rerouting traffic, creating more housing, and focusing on equitable public safety measures—all to make Austin a thriving place for everyone.
I believe in empowering communities and fostering self-reliance. Austin is a fantastic city, but we need to tackle issues like transportation, affordability, and sustainability head-on.

I have a goal to help make Austin not just a place to live, but a place to thrive.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Life’s journey is rarely a smooth ride, and mine has certainly been filled with its fair share of twists and turns. One of the most defining moments in my career came early on during my time consulting at EY. As a junior member of the team, I was thrown into the deep end when I was unexpectedly tasked with leading a high-stakes meeting with a VP from Humana on a post-acquisition integration project. Picture this: I arrived in LA prepared to support, only to find myself in the hot seat. In that moment, I was terrified and questioned my readiness, and even my organization for putting me in such a position. But it was this pressure cooker of an experience that taught me I was more capable than I ever imagined. It was about learning to connect with leaders at all levels and earning their trust, even when self-doubt was at its peak.

My career path has also been punctuated by tough lessons in pursuing what I thought were the right opportunities. Leaving one firm for another in pursuit of better compensation and titles seemed like a smart move at the time, but it quickly became a nightmare. I lasted only six months before realizing that the allure of a higher paycheck wasn’t worth the personal and professional cost. It was a harsh lesson in understanding what truly matters to me, beyond the superficial trappings of success.

My last corporate stint was another intricate chapter. I learned to influence business operations and strategy from a distance, building trust and demonstrating that improvements for Medicare populations could benefit broader operations, too. However, this role came with its own challenges, primarily navigating a leadership scenario that felt like being caught between two divorced parents. With all its disruptions, the global pandemic ironically became the catalyst I needed to step back and reassess why I was so unhappy. It forced me to realign with my core values and redefine what success means.

Each of these experiences, though challenging, shaped me into the leader I am today. They’ve taught me resilience, the importance of authenticity, and the value of aligning my career with my true passions and values.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Trio Property Group?
Welcome to my world, where real estate is more than just bricks and mortar—it’s about community, innovation, and finding the perfect home or buyer. As the “King of 78704,” I specialize in Austin’s vibrant neighborhoods south of the river.
What makes my business unique is the combination of my management consulting background and a sharp eye for market trends. With data as my foundation and a deep market understanding, I can spot shifts and opportunities that others might miss. This means I can offer clients tailored services that match their specific needs.

I’m particularly passionate about working with investors and builders to uncover deals where the math works, even in today’s challenging equity market. My role on the Tourism Commission keeps me at the center of crucial information, allowing me to leverage this insight to benefit my clients. I recently led a working group to develop Short-Term Rental (STR) Policy Recommendations for the City of Austin. This experience has given me a strong grasp on the STR market and potential changes, providing my clients with a competitive edge in navigating these opportunities.

I’m incredibly proud to be part of Trio Property Group. Our team is a powerhouse of diverse talents, and together, we create a dynamic force in the real estate industry that keeps pushing the conversation forward.

I’ve also launched a YouTube channel dedicated to home tours. This isn’t just about showcasing stunning properties; it’s about giving viewers a glimpse into the 78704 lifestyle. It’s all about transparency and helping clients envision their future community in a way that’s fun and engaging.

At the core of my brand is a dedication to pushing boundaries and setting new standards in real estate with a focus on my clients. I’m here to be a valuable resource and provide insight, strategy, and emotional intelligence to aid in decision-making. I’m not just about selling homes; I’m about building lasting relationships and vibrant communities.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Throughout my journey, one of the most vital lessons I’ve learned is that change is often a slow dance, and culture can make or break even the most meticulously planned operations and process improvements.

I’ve discovered that listening is more important than speaking. Understanding what truly resonates with or motivates stakeholders allows me to craft solutions that support their vision. This fosters a sense of ownership and ensures that everyone sees their input respected and integrated.

This journey has taught me that effective leadership isn’t just about having the right plans in place—it’s about connecting with people, addressing their concerns, and steering the ship so everyone feels invested in the voyage.
