Today we’d like to introduce you to Cory & Victoria Shope. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Cory started doing electrical work with the local union when he was in his 20’s. Cory has always had ambitions of starting his own company and finally decided to take that plunge immediately after having his second child. For them, it seemed like a great way to provide the local community with a very real need while also allowing them to have a little more time flexibility for their growing family. Victoria’s history in working as a paralegal lent itself to the customer service and clerical skills that were needed to run things on the back end. They now have three young kids who are truly the inspiration and driving force of their efforts and success.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Learning to work with each other was one of the biggest challenges that we’ve overcome. We’re truly best friends and have always had a strong relationship but going into business together and spending significantly more time together definitely added a new dynamic to our relationship. Learning to recognize and play off of our own strengths as well as each others’ has been key for us in working together. We’ve come so far in this department through lots of open communication but still have our occasional struggles with setting boundaries on our work/life balance. It can be difficult to keep the two separate when they all occur within the same household and don’t have strict on/off times.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Volthouse Electric & Solar?
Volthouse Electric primarily performs Residential and small Commercial electrical services as well as Solar Installation services to Austin and surrounding areas. Cory holds a Master Electrician license and enjoys being able to raise the bar of electrical contractor expectations through this company. We started with the goal to provide our customers with the prompt, affordable, and quality electrical services that should be expected in this field but can be hard to come by. Good contractors in any field are hard to find! We’re so proud to have over 100 5 star google reviews. Aside from keeping our customers happy, I would say our biggest pride is our employees. We truly have an amazing team and are fully committed to keeping them happy and well taken care of. One of the ways that we do this is by being the only residential and solar electrical company in Austin that is part of the Local Electrical Union 520. Our union partnership allows us to provide amazing benefits and competitive pay to our employees, which we believe is the key to the quality work that we’re able to provide to our customers.
Any big plans?
We’re extremely excited to not only continue our standard services but to really lean into helping our community to switch to green energy. We truly believe in the benefits of solar to our community as well as our earth as a whole and it’s so exciting that this option has recently become more attainable to the average person.
