Hi Darius, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I never aimed to become a professional barber. God literally put this in my life. I had other dreams and goals, but for the longest time, I didn’t understand “why” this was God’s plan for me. I had invested my time in college studying business and communications and did well. I felt at that point that I was destined for bigger and brighter things than “this.” But in 2025, after 11 years, God revealed to me “why” He chose this path. I am thankful that I was obedient and followed it.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a smooth journey overall. The challenging part has been expanding. I’ve tried it, but I didn’t like it, and I wasn’t successful. I believe it would be better if I had someone I trusted to manage it while I oversee operations. I’ve never found that person and am not actively searching. Instead, I am preparing everything for my children to step in and do what I couldn’t in expanding this. Very similar to HEB. Started in 1905, they struggled with expansion in the 1920s, but from the 1940s until today, they have been one of the most successful privately owned grocery chains in the world. It simply takes time and I am patient because I am only interested in sustaining the coming generations (my children and their children.)
