Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabrielle Rosa Amaro.
Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
I was a teacher for 5 years at Elgin ISD. Once my second child was born, I wanted to have a work that allowed me to work from home with some flexibility. I started working for my parent’s nonprofit, the William Lewis School of Opera. The nonprofit has specialized in Opera Summer Programs in Europe since 1993; the William Lewis School of Opera complements University Studies or Private Vocal Studies. We are based in Elgin, and I realized the community needed a music school. Music is an important part of education and an important art to master; in response to the lack of a music school, I decided to open the Elgin Music School, which operates under the William Lewis School of Opera. We started operating in October. We offer piano, violin, voice, guitar, dance, and drum lessons.
Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has had its ups and downs. Some of the challenges that we have faced are finding highly qualified instructors within the community and retaining students.

We offer music lessons to the community. What makes us different is that we have highly qualified teachers and are located down a beautiful country road. The atmosphere is peaceful and perfect for focusing on and enjoying music. When students come to our school, they experience a complete experience from the location to the musical knowledge they acquire. Our instructors can teach all levels as well as all ages. We have students as young as 4 to students in their 60s. Music education should be accessible to all. It is a great way to improve and maintain cognitive capacities.
