Exploring Life & Business with Griselda Melendez of La Catrina & Co.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Griselda Melendez.

Griselda, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hello, my name is Griselda Melendez. I am the owner of La Catrina & Co, Fine Western Boutique. My business journey began in Odessa, TX. A small oilfield town in West Texas back in 2021. I am so passionate about fashion and culture, I wanted to pursue my career as a fashion designer and that’s why I decided to relocate near Austin, TX. La Catrina & Co. is currently located at the Tanger Outlets in San Marcos Texas. We are expecting our brand line to be launched in new year, the collection will be full of embroidered and bedded details inspired by my Mexican and Texan roots. To be able to be successful, it’s extremely necessary to be persistent, efficient and resilient. The journey of an entrepreneur is not easy, but the satisfaction of seeing your business flourish pays off.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
As an entrepreneur, I navigated through difficult times. Such as, failing at the time of targeting the right market and marketing strategy. People loved the concept and the experience at the store but weren’t spending money on my business. That led to low sales and the business struggled to subsist. The learning process took me a couple of months but once I was able to adapt and switch direction, I started to see a change.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
La Catrina & Company- Named after the elegant skull, a festive symbol of “the day of death”. The boutique is the synonym of timeless and elegance. My small business is a reflection of me, my biggest passion which is fashion, and a blend of my Tex-Mex proudly identity. My slogan “let’s be eternal” is a reminder to live at our fullest before our departure from this world, let’s make something significant for our community in order to be remembered with honor. Our commitment is to provide exclusive products in the area and make our arrayed western wear the most unique stylish boutique in the area.
