Exploring Life & Business with Hailey Hendricks of New Braunfels CrossFit

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hailey Hendricks.

Hi Hailey, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
New Braunfels CrossFit has been a part of this community since 2009. I joined the gym as a coach in 2018 and immediately fell in love—with the people, the culture, and the way this place used fitness as a tool for connection and growth. At the beginning of 2020, I stepped into ownership, and like so many small businesses, my first year was anything but ordinary.

During that time, we adapted quickly and creatively—loaning out equipment, hosting online classes, and posting weekly workout videos so our members could continue receiving the coaching and guidance that define who we are. We didn’t just survive that season; we learned from it. In the years since, New Braunfels CrossFit has truly flourished. We’ve expanded our offerings to include CrossFit, bootcamp, Olympic lifting, run club, and more—along with becoming the only gym in New Braunfels to offer dedicated strength-only classes focused on conventional lifting, with no cardio attached.

Across every program, our mission remains the same: exceptional coaching, intentional programming, and an environment where people feel supported, challenged, and genuinely welcomed. What we’ve built here goes beyond fitness—it’s a community rooted in consistency, care, and a shared commitment to getting better together.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Has it been a smooth road? Like most small businesses, not at all. We faced significant challenges during COVID—working tirelessly to continue providing high-quality coaching while many of our members were navigating their own hardships and had to pause or step away. That season tested us in every way and became a powerful learning experience for everyone involved.

Beyond the challenges of the pandemic, we also navigated seasons of transition and change—learning how important clarity, alignment, and strong systems are to building something that lasts. Through every obstacle, we’ve kept our focus on what matters most: providing people a space to get better, alongside like-minded individuals who support, challenge, and grow together.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
New Braunfels CrossFit has been part of the local fitness landscape since 2009, but what defines us today is how intentionally we’ve evolved. We’re a strength-forward, coaching-led gym built on the belief that fitness should support your life—not overwhelm it.

Our offerings range from CrossFit and bootcamp to Olympic lifting, run club, youth programs, and specialty training, but we’re best known for our approach to strength. We are the only gym in New Braunfels to offer dedicated strength-only classes focused purely on conventional lifting, with no cardio attached. That focus allows us to train for longevity, confidence, and real progress—meeting people where they are and giving them space to grow without burnout.

Coaching is our cornerstone. Every class is led with intention, attention, and care. We emphasize movement quality, education, and individual guidance, creating an experience where no one feels invisible and everyone feels supported. It’s not about chasing trends or intensity for intensity’s sake—it’s about doing things well, consistently.

What we’re most proud of, brand-wise, is the culture we’ve built. New Braunfels CrossFit is welcoming without being watered down, challenging without being intimidating. It’s a room full of people who want to get better and are willing to do the work—together. From beginners to seasoned athletes, young adults to seniors, everyone trains under the same values of effort, respect, and community.

At its core, New Braunfels CrossFit is more than a place to work out. It’s a space rooted in clarity, strong systems, and human connection. We believe strength—physical and otherwise—changes lives, and we’re proud to be building something that lasts.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
FOR ATHLETES: Start where you are, not where you think you should be. Consistency matters far more than intensity, especially in the beginning. Focus on learning good movement, building strength gradually, and finding an environment that feels supportive rather than overwhelming.

Fitness isn’t about perfection or punishment—it’s about building habits you can sustain. Give yourself grace, ask questions, and remember that showing up regularly will always beat going all-in for a few weeks and burning out.

FOR BUSINESS OWNERS: If you’re just starting out, my biggest advice is this: build slowly and intentionally, and don’t confuse momentum with alignment. Growth will come, but only if what you’re building is sustainable for you and the people you serve.

I wish I had known earlier how important systems, boundaries, and clarity really are. Passion can carry you far in the beginning, but it won’t replace strong processes, clear expectations, and aligned partnerships. Invest in those early—even when it feels less exciting than chasing growth or doing everything yourself.

Another lesson is to value consistency over perfection. You don’t need to get everything right out of the gate. What matters is showing up, learning quickly, and being willing to adapt without losing your core values. Listen to feedback, but trust your vision. Not every opinion deserves equal weight.

Finally, remember that your business will reflect how you treat yourself. Burnout doesn’t build great brands—healthy, supported leaders do. Protect your energy, build a team you trust, and allow the business to evolve as you do.

If you focus on clarity, integrity, and doing things well over time, you’ll build something that lasts.
