Exploring Life & Business with Heather Hanson of Flourish Nutritional Therapy Consultants

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Hanson.

Hi Heather, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
“I’m Heather Hanson—a wife, mother, nana, dog mom, entrepreneur, CEO, and adventure junkie. Earlier this year, I made a powerful decision: I was done playing small. I stopped hiding and started standing boldly in my truth so I could fulfill my life’s purpose—giving women a safe space to heal.”

My story didn’t begin in a glossy, successful practice or on a speaker stage. It started in a small rural town, filled with unspoken trauma—domestic violence, abuse, bullying. From a young age, I struggled with mysterious health issues that couldn’t be explained. Fatigue, rashes, brain fog, bloating, and a sudden weight gain at age 14 left me feeling confused and ashamed. No one had answers. But the truth was deeper than symptoms.

By 19, I was diagnosed with autoimmune thyroiditis. By 25, I’d already had a hysterectomy. The message I got over and over was: “Here’s a medication. Just learn to live with it.” But I couldn’t settle. I wanted to feel well—not just manage symptoms.

The turning point came after a particularly dismissive doctor’s visit that left me in tears. I threw my medications in the trash and decided to find a better way. I began healing through food, lifestyle changes, and slowly listening to my body. This wasn’t mainstream in 2002—but I knew what I felt. And I wasn’t alone.

While working in family practice, I saw the same patterns in patients. Peolple in their 30s and 40s who were exhausted, bloated, on multiple medications—and told it was just part of getting older. I knew that wasn’t true and I wanted to make a difference, so I implemented a 12-week cardiometabolic program that helped them take control of their health, and it changed lives.

But not every person got better. That pushed me deeper—to investigate root causes, study gut health, trauma, and the gut-brain connection. What I didn’t know at the time? I was really learning to heal myself.

At 44, I thought I had it all together. My health was dialed in. My practice was thriving. But beneath it all, I was still operating on old trauma and a need for control. When personal betrayal forced me to walk away from everything I had built, my symptoms returned with a vengeance. Fatigue. Brain fog. Bloating. It was a full-body wake-up call.

That’s when I understood: healing isn’t just about food and supplements. It’s about nervous system regulation. About dealing with the stuff we push down. About realizing that the unconscious mind remembers what we try to forget.

Today, I help women go beyond band-aid fixes. My programs address gut, brain, and spirit—so that women can finally feel peace in their bodies and discover their true purpose in life. You don’t have to settle. You’re not just “getting older.” There is a way forward.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to where I am today wasn’t smooth or linear. It was filled with doubt—sometimes my own, but often from the people around me. When I first began to connect food with how I felt, cutting out gluten and dairy long before it was popular, I was told over and over again that it was “all in my head.” That I was being dramatic. That food couldn’t possibly make that big of a difference.

When I started shifting my career and telling patients they didn’t have to accept chronic fatigue, weight gain, bloating, and brain fog as normal, some colleagues looked at me sideways. They thought it was a waste of time—just a fad. One doctor even told me, “Heather, what you’re doing won’t make a difference.” That hurt. Because I knew it already was.

I had to get very comfortable with being the outlier—the one doing things differently. I went against the grain because I believed there was more to health than just prescriptions. And I was right. But that didn’t mean it was easy.

There were many seasons of self-doubt. Many times I asked, “Who am I to do this work?” or “Am I crazy for trying to build something that doesn’t fit into the traditional system?” I worked long hours, often in survival mode, juggling family, schooling, and the demands of a growing business—while still trying to heal my own body.

But I also knew this: if I didn’t fight for my own wellness—and for the wellness of women like me—no one else would.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m the founder of a transformative wellness practice that helps women feel at peace in their bodies and reclaim their health by addressing the root causes—not just managing symptoms. My work integrates the gut-brain-spirit connection, recognizing that true healing requires more than a meal plan or supplement protocol. It demands that we look at the whole person: physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

I specialize in helping women who have been told “everything looks normal,” even though they’re struggling with fatigue, bloating, weight gain, brain fog, and hormonal imbalances. Many of my clients come to me after seeing multiple doctors and specialists, still without answers. What sets my approach apart is that I don’t just hand over a to-do list—I walk with them through the healing process using a combination of science-backed tools and intuitive, heart-led coaching.

I’m known for helping women reconnect to themselves—learning to listen to the signals their bodies have been sending and finally feeling seen and heard in a way they may never have before. I use my Digestive CPR framework to restore gut function, regulate the nervous system, and address the emotional and energetic blocks that often get overlooked in traditional care.

What I’m most proud of, brand-wise, is the safe and sacred space I’ve created for women to heal. It’s not just about getting rid of symptoms—it’s about rediscovering who you are beneath the pain, the people-pleasing, and the pressure to keep it all together. My clients leave with more than better labs and fewer symptoms. They leave with clarity, confidence, and a renewed sense of purpose.

I want your readers to know this: You don’t have to settle. You’re not just “getting older.” If your body is screaming for attention, it’s not broken—it’s brilliant. My work is here to guide you back home to yourself, with real answers, deep healing, and support every step of the way.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Finding the right mentor is about more than credentials—it’s about connection, alignment, and energy. My biggest advice? Seek out someone who not only has the knowledge you desire but who embodies the kind of life and values you want for yourself. A mentor isn’t just there to teach you what to do, they’re there to help you grow into who you’re becoming.

I’ve found that mentorship often shows up in unexpected ways. Some of my best mentors didn’t come through formal programs—they were people I crossed paths with because I stayed open, showed up fully, and was willing to ask questions and receive guidance.

When it comes to networking, what’s worked best for me is leading with authenticity. People connect with real—not polished perfection. Share your story, your “why,” and your heart. That’s what draws the right people in. I’ve built the most powerful connections not by trying to impress, but by being willing to be seen.

Also, don’t underestimate the power of communities—especially those rooted in shared purpose. Whether it’s a summit, a local women’s circle, or an online mastermind, the more aligned the space, the more likely you are to find your people.

And one last thing: Don’t be afraid to reach out. That person you admire? Message them. Ask a question. Express genuine appreciation. You never know what doors will open from a simple, heartfelt connection.
