Exploring Life & Business with Inez Meadows of Nord Interiors

Today we’d like to introduce you to Inez Meadows

Hi Inez, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My adoration for the creative realm started as a young girl. I remember every summer my mom would allow my sister and I to change up the design of our bedroom. We would choose the new color scheme and theme, and my mom would implement. I absolutely lit up at the grand reveal every single year. Looking back at it now, my mom was nurturing a deep creative passion that I hadn’t fully discovered yet.

In 2013 I studied fashion design at the University of Texas at Austin, but soon realized that fashion wasn’t the medium that I was most passionate about – it was interior design. While completing my degree, I sought out a job in interior design as quickly as I could. I operated as Visual Merchandiser at West Elm for two years before landing an incredible Entry Level position at an Austin Interior Design & Build Firm. I worked my way from Intern to Project Manager, Junior Designer to Lead Designer, and finally landed at Design Director. I learned so much during my years as a designer for other well-established entities, and I learned so much about myself as well. It became apparent that there were a few key principles that were extremely important to me in the world of interior design and business: prioritizing quality over quantity, embracing limitless creativity, and fostering deep, meaningful client relationships.

In 2024, driven by these values, I took a leap of faith and founded Nord Interiors, a business model that embodies my cherished principles.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Honestly, my faith in God has been my anchor throughout the journey of founding this design studio. Without His guiding hand and the peace He has given me every step of the way, I’m certain I would be overwhelmed and exhausted by now! Leaving my secure, full-time job with guaranteed projects was nerve-wracking, but sometimes in life, you have to walk away from a ‘good thing’ to embrace something even better.

The early stages of building a business demand relentless dedication and passion. I trust that the right clients will gravitate towards me, just as I am drawn to them. I am deeply grateful in advance to each client who chooses me to design their home—a place that holds such significance in their lives.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Nord Interiors is a full-service interior design studio specializing in residential design. We collaborate with our client’s selected architect and builder to fabricate beautiful homes, tailored to the client, and ensure that it’s a smooth, fun process along the way! There are three very simple things that set us apart as a design studio:

1. We take our projects very seriously, but we do not take ourselves too seriously. New builds and remodels take months to complete, which means we are embarking on a journey with our clients, requiring weekly correspondence and discussion of many intimate details about their home. We want to keep joy at the center of this process – because a beautiful, new home is something to be joyful about!

2. Quality over quantity. We prioritize quality over quantity by deliberately limiting our project load. This allows us to devote personalized attention to each client, ensuring that their home receives the meticulous care and consideration it deserves. When you choose Nord Interiors, you’re not just selecting a designer, you’re selecting a collaborator that is committed to infusing your personality and aspirations into every detail of your home.

3. We place a high amount of value on our clients. With each unique client that signs on with Nord, we’re constantly thinking of ways that we can better serve THEM. Striving to always be forwarding thinking in how we can make their remodel or build process as smooth as possible. I often think back to my personal home remodel and I put myself in the client’s shoes. Our desire is to make the client’s life easier through one of their greatest investments, and ensure we bring joy to the process.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
For anyone starting out in the interior design industry, my first piece of advice is to embrace humility. This field constantly evolves, presenting endless opportunities to learn and grow. Don’t be discouraged by others who may be more experienced; instead, let their expertise inspire and drive you forward. By absorbing knowledge from seasoned designers, architects, and builders, you’ll steadily build the confidence needed to make your mark in this dynamic industry.
My second piece of advice is to realize early on that interior designers are not solely responsible for design. You will wear multiple hats—acting as a designer, an accountant, a project manager, and sometimes even a counselor. (Trust me, my fellow designers can relate to the last one. Building a home can be an emotional journey—we’ve been there!) It’s important to embrace these diverse roles with openness and adaptability, as they are very important to delivering a positive experience for your clients.
