Exploring Life & Business with Jay & Jen Bachman of Wimberley Cafe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jay & Jen Bachman. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Jen and Jay have worked in the service industry for around 30 years. We moved to Wimberley in 2008, built a catering company, a BBQ joint, and were fortunate to purchase Wimberley Cafe in 2018.

We have 2 kids:
William, 14
Brooke, 11

Jen also taught & coached at the High School until 2017.

Jay is also a managing chef with Mercy Chefs, a 501c3 disaster/ humanitarian relief ministry.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It’s all about your network. Strong relationships make everything smoother. We’ve had to make some tough choices, but I’d say we’ve had an easier go of it than most.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Wimberley Cafe is a small town institution. It’s the focal point of the town square and anchors the village’s unique mom & pop commercial district.

The Cafe prides itself on a high-quality, handmade southern menu with excellent service & atmosphere, but we aren’t necessarily in the “food business”. We are in the business of touching people on an emotional level; bringing back memories of grandma’s kitchen. That being said, we believe the quickest route to the heart is through the stomach.

Any big plans?
The heart of Wimberley Cafe is in preservation. We hold tight to the idea that our past is our future.

Wimberley is one of the last remaining jewels in the Texas Hill Country, It has so much to offer, but we must all be careful about how much we take.

As a community, we encourage one another to be the best we can be, while maintaining balance with our rich heritage, tourism economy, and fragile ecosystem.
