Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Courtney
Hi Jeremy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Just a few years ago, I was working as an assistant portfolio supervisor for a large apartment community in downtown Austin, managing over 2000 residents from behind a desk. But deep down, I knew I wanted more—I wanted to build something of my own, something that could retire my family, create generational wealth, and give me the freedom to live life on my own terms. My now-husband and business partner, Blake, and I started our short-term rental property management company while I was still working my W-2 job, and before long, it became clear that juggling both was no longer sustainable. That’s when I made the decision to take the leap, betting on myself and the vision we had for our future.
The transition wasn’t easy. I felt like I had to learn everything the hard way, from business operations to scaling a company, all while proving to myself—and to those who had doubts—that we could do it. There were long nights, tough decisions, and moments of uncertainty, but through it all, we stayed committed to our mission. Blake and I built our company from the ground up, navigating challenges together and refusing to give up, no matter how difficult things got. We started with just 15 properties under management when I quit my job, and through relentless effort, trust in our vision, and a lot of hard work, we’ve now grown to managing around 100 properties, plus owning a 14-unit boutique hotel in Canyon Lake.
Looking back, taking the leap was the best decision I ever made. Entrepreneurship comes with its fair share of pressure, but I’ve come to embrace it—after all, pressure is a privilege. If there’s one piece of advice I’d give to anyone thinking about leaving their W-2 to chase their dreams, it’s this: trust your gut, go all in, and never give up. Success doesn’t happen overnight, but if you take it one day at a time and stay focused on your goals, the rewards are beyond worth it.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We didn’t have any investors or debt when we started CRIBS—we were completely self-funded, which was undoubtedly challenging. We initially began in co-living, renting out rooms in single-family homes, and grew that side of the business to about 40 houses under management, all while simultaneously expanding our short-term rental management portfolio. As both sides of the business grew, it became increasingly difficult to manage both, leading us to the tough decision to sell our co-living portfolio and go all in on short-term rentals.
Along the way, we’ve faced our fair share of roadblocks, such as navigating the complexities of scaling while maintaining top-quality service and ensuring the best possible experience for our property owners. Despite the challenges, each hurdle has been a learning experience, shaping CRIBS into the thriving business it is today.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Our business primarily focuses on working with investors in the short-term rental and boutique hotel industry. We like to call ourselves the gay Chip and Joanna Gaines—but for short-term rental investors! Essentially, we’re a full-service, turnkey solution for STR investors, guiding them through every step of the process. From identifying and qualifying the right property to remodeling, designing, and setting it up, we handle it all. And once the property is live, we take care of the day-to-day management to ensure it operates smoothly and profitably.
Between everything CRIBS does, we’ve built a strong team of 21 dedicated professionals who help bring our vision to life. Over the years, we’ve grown into one of the largest locally owned short-term rental management companies in and around the Austin market. Our goal is not just to manage properties but to create high-performing, beautifully designed spaces that maximize returns for our investors while delivering top-tier guest experiences.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
My purpose goes far beyond building a successful business—it’s about creating a life of freedom, impact, and legacy for my family and others. Family is everything to me, and I want to ensure that not only can we live life to the fullest, but that future generations are set up for success as well. I know that I am incredibly blessed, and it’s important to me to share that blessing by giving back in meaningful ways. Our ultimate goal is to build a business that not only allows us to retire our families and create generational wealth but also allows us to donate to the causes we care about most.
I truly believe we only get one life, and I want to make the most of every moment—for myself, my loved ones, and the people we have the opportunity to impact.
