Today we’d like to introduce you to Joanie Davis.
Hi Joanie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have always had a love for fashion and pretty things. I grew up in a large family in South Texas. My mom would stay up late sewing a dress for me and my 4 sisters. She also helped my Aunt part-time with her flower shop. In High School I was a member of the DECA Program and worked half a day Junior & Senior year for K-Wolens, a discount clothing store. When I graduated High School, I attended Bauder College for Fashion Merchandising & Interior Design. After graduating College I got married to my husband of 42 yrs. I worked retail Management and Banking. Raised two daughters. Opened DeNa’s Gifts, Antiques and Apparel in Austin for 2 years. My Mom started suffering from Alzheimers, so we moved her to Round Rock assisted living. She would come to the shop and help me make flower arrangements, wreaths, necklaces. and sewed baby blankets in her room. I started having customers asking for decorating help. We started helping with window treatments, furniture, decor, paint colors, etc. Decided to start doing Interior decorating and remodeling in 2004. I have many different Vendors I use and Sub-Contractors. Fashion and home decorating go hand in hand. Colors and trends are always changing. I also received my Real estate license in 2011. My blessings come from my parents who were entrepreneurs, my loving husband, my beautiful daughters, son in-law, 4 grandkids, and God Almighty.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Every job is different. You meet with the customer to see what they are interested in and you help them decide what is best for them. You give them ideas on design, color, and decor.
We’ve been impressed with DeNa’s Interiors/Remodeling, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I try to use a personal touch on every job. Alot of times I become friends with my customers. When you help your customer pick out decor for their homes you start learning about them and their interests. We specialize in home decorating, bathroom remodels and kitchen remodels.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Reliable, responsible, and caring.
