Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyli Abbatoye.
Hi Kyli, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My husband and I started Spotless Crime Clean together, 9 years ago. My husband Josh is a Purple Heart, Combat Veteran and I am a nurse with psychiatric background. I was told a very unfortunate story from one of my co-workers that her brother was murdered in their home many years ago. When she stated that there was blood everywhere, she added that she never returned to the home. I asked who cleaned the scene. She stated her family’s church came in 2 weeks after the event and did surface cleaning, because the police had no resources to give them. Josh was about to retire and we were looking for a niche. A business that would make a difference by not only providing for our family, but more importantly make a difference in our community. That is when our business was built from scratch. We scraped $15,000 together by using our truck as collateral and we have never looked back. We have helped SO many families. Not only by removing the visual trauma and making their homes/businesses safe again, but also helping them through the stages of grieving and rebuilding. We have cleaned homicides, double homicides, triple homicides, quadruple homicides, suicides, accidents, decompositions, and unattended deaths. It is not an easy job. It is physically challenging and it is also emotionally challenging. We love what we do and have grown so much in the last 9 years. Even though we have grown so much, you will still find Josh and I working side by side on each scene. We handle more than just crime scenes. We work with hoarding situations, fire, water, and mold remediation. We are also certified in testing for meth and fentanyl. We are certified to decontaminate areas affected by meth and fentanyl as well.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not at all been a smooth road. There was a lot of learning. A lot of certifications. And no matter how many classes we took, videos we watched, or books we read; nothing prepares you for the experience of going through the process with someone after they have just lost their spouse to suicide or their child to homicide. Every single scene is different. They are challenging. They are dangerous. We have had to call law enforcement back out due to not feeling safe. And when the job is complete you have to try and compartmentalize and go on to the next one as you are still trying to get the images out of your head from the last scene.
As you know, we’re big fans of Spotless Crime Clean. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are a husband and wife owned Biohazard Removal company. Specializing in cleaning crime scenes (homicides, suicides, accidents, decompositions, unattended deaths, hoarding situations, demo of homes, meth/fentanyl testing, meth/fentanyl decontamination.
We are known to be a power couple. Always together. Always working side by side. We are beyond proud that our job doesn’t just entail cleaning, getting paid, and leaving. Once we help a family, they become a part of our Spotless family. We help them through crime victim’s compensation. We attend trials (we sit in the court room with the families to just be there for support). We make sure every stone is turned when it comes to helping the families through the most tragic days of their life.
What sets us apart from other companies in our industry is our kindness and going above and beyond. For example, we take a hand written sympathy card to each clean up, for the family. It is a small thing, but can be very powerful in a time of such heartache. We also personally reach back out to our families to see how they are coping. Making sure they aren’t in need of resources we may have.
We have also been known for doing quite a few jobs for free, due to certain circumstances. For example, we helped a family clean their child’s room after a self inflicted gun shot wound. We purchased the carpet ourselves to help the family. That is what fills our hearts. You will never find us cleaning, demanding a payment, and just walking away never to be heard from again.
There have been certain jobs where the cleaning took 30 minutes but we stayed for hours just listening to the grieving family members cry, scream, tell stories. Just being there for needed comfort.
We offer compassion, 24/7 service, guarantee that the job will be done correctly and on the first time. We keep our promises and we follow through.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Hard work, determination, empathy, compassion, willingness to learn, talking less and listening more. Making sure the job is done correctly and at an honest price.
