Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Fleming.
Hi Lauren, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
After the birth of my first child, I was diagnosed with Pelvic Organ Prolapse, a condition I’d never even heard of before. It was isolating, overwhelming, and the “solutions” I found were uncomfortable, clinical, and often just not wearable. That’s when I realized how many women were silently struggling with the same issue, without support they actually wanted to use.
Out of that personal need, I created Hem Support Wear, a pelvic health brand that is starting with external support garments designed to help women with prolapse and postpartum changes feel like themselves again and move through life with confidence. What started as a search for relief in my own postpartum journey has grown into a mission to empower women at every stage of life—from postpartum recovery to perimenopause and beyond. Becoming a founder was born from necessity and a deep desire to make sure my two daughters, and women everywhere, don’t have to walk through this in silence.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has been anything but smooth. In the early days, I lost thousands of dollars and months of precious time when my first manufacturing partner couldn’t deliver on quality. Later, I worked with a marketing agency that wasn’t the right fit, which forced me to learn the hard way about trusting my instincts and protecting my company.
On top of the business hurdles, there’s the balance of being a mom, wife, and founder—often all at once. I’ve had to learn to prioritize ruthlessly, lean on my support systems, and build resilience as both a mother and entrepreneur. Pelvic health is also a topic that many people don’t know about, or feel uncomfortable talking about so raising awareness requires constant effort. Still, the obstacles have shaped me into a stronger, more empathetic leader.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Hem Support Wear creates thoughtfully designed pelvic floor support underwear that empowers women to feel comfortable, confident, and supported in their daily lives. Unlike compression garments or shapewear, our patented design provides true lift and relief from symptoms like heaviness or the “falling out” feeling that comes with prolapse and other pelvic floor disorders.
What sets us apart is that we’re not just selling a garment. We’re sparking conversations in an area of women’s health that has long been stigmatized. We listen closely to our community, incorporating feedback into everything from sizing to design (offering both “curvy” and “straight” fits, because one-size-fits-all isn’t good enough). I’m most proud of the stories from women who tell us our garments have changed their lives, like a mom who could finally go for long walks again postpartum, or a woman in her late 70s who went on a once in a lifetime African safari and felt supported with our underwear.
At the end of the day, Hem is about more than clothing, it’s about giving women their confidence back.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
There are so many ways people can support this work. First and foremost, by sharing our story and talking about the issues—the more we normalize conversations around pelvic health, the more women feel less alone. For those navigating prolapse, postpartum recovery, or pelvic floor symptoms, trying our garment or gifting it to someone else can make a real difference.
We also collaborate with healthcare professionals through our patient education kits, which bring resources and samples directly into clinical settings. Our Expert Spotlight series highlights pelvic health professionals and their insights, while our Hem Spotlight series shares real women’s stories—both helping to break stigma and create community.
For those who aren’t directly impacted but want to help, supporting women-led, impact-driven businesses like Hem goes a long way. Every share, every introduction, and every purchase helps us grow this movement.
